Andy ( Renrag39) and I are going to have a day somewhere on the Drains/Fens next Wednesday.
Andy is coming West from Norfolk and I am coming East from Leicester. I am bring the RTM Abac and Tempo over for him to have a try in.
So two questions for you East Anglians.... Where would be a good place to drop in relatively easily and where there should be a few fish to catch?
Does anyone else fancy a day out and a paddle in the RTM's if you want?
All welcome
Terry

Just saw this , is there a Peterborough fishing club site ? I think its a lively bit of water ,but have the fish stocks picked up? I have had two days at Ely for zander ,water flowing to fast though, it was starting to look ok but when its warm you have to fish late for zander , the only people I know of to have caught any have been overnighting. I have been wanting to try for pike on the fly but its been to windy when I had time, can,t get of mid week or I,d join you, well unless I get an early finish, !

Zander? Would the Cut Off Channel be an option? Or does anyone know where we can have a chance of a Zed for Daz but still get some silvers for fresh bait and Esox as well?

a mixed bag is what we need, a zed can wait or turn up out the blue

Local knowledge is what we need. I put a thread on AKA but I guess most of those lads are Salties.

Most are but there are a few who do both, maybe a quarter. we have the broads on our doorstep though so it's only zander and bleak that would attract us in terms of species. Traffic seems to be quite slow right now too and most are concentrating on the bass, mackerel and hounds.

Who needs silvers? What's wrong with lures? Will pop this up on LAS, see if there is any more interest/suggestions.

That's fine, just saw that for zeds they recommend fresh lives or deads.

Plenty of Zeds caught on 3/4" Shads, too. If you need a few I think I've a couple knocking about!!!

Daz and I are doing the Anglers afloat species hunt so especially for him the silvers plus whatever would be handy. We both want to learn more about the finer use of plastics so if we can find a venue that suits the method that would be perfect on all counts.

I'll let you into a secret. No venue suits Soft Plastics... The beauty of them is you can make Soft Plastics suit any venue I know, very profound! It's just a judgement call when you set up the weight. Would be cool if I catch anything. Been to the Fens 3 times and blanked every time. Once bait fishing and twice luring, but at the last one, there were over 20 of us traipsing the banks... 1, maybe 2 fish caught... It was a hard day and there were some VERY experienced anglers there.

I have read that the Wissey is good for pike and some nice perch. Where is the local knowledge when you need it.

i say lets hit hilgay and see what we can pull out, if there is pike and perch there has to be something for them to feed on, whats the worst that can happen ;D

The Wissey is looking favourite then. At least we have the option to move over to the Ouse or Cut Off Channel without too much travelling if we want a change.
Andy, Do you have paddle and seat or should I bring spares for you?

Hilgay looks OK as there is a launch but is there parking? Other than that there is the Denver Sluice end where there is parking. I don't know the area hopefully someone who does can advise us. 8.30-9.00 sound ok? It's 2 hours from here and 40 mins to load up so that's about right.
