On another thread Fenboystu stupidly ;D mentioned a possible get together. Now far be it from me to discourage the possibility of putting faces to names so I wonder if there is any interest.
I am hoping that as the local boy Stu might be able to look at a suitable venue.
First off we need to see if there is any interest personally I like the idea. If you do too put your name down and what weekend dates you might be available and lets see how it goes.
Copy and paste the list and add your details and dates on the bpttom.

Unfortunately thats the only date i cant do as i`m away with friends all the others should not be a problem Were you planning on bank or yak fishing we have countless miles of drains some acessible by yak some not some you could almost jump over but they do tend to throw up some suprises ?? Lure or bait fishing ?? And how do you feel about livebaiting ??

On the yak would be best so we can vary things and perhaps fish water where very few have been before.
Personally I have no issue with livebaiting but respect the views of those against it. Each to their own.
We could try anything and everything, maggot to get live bait or fresh deads , lures, casting and trolling anything goes.

Hi ,the idea had crossed my mind too, I get out around Ely sometimes as its an open water area, anyone can fish there, I,ve been checking and the water downstream is "coopers"? stu ? I,ve been told they do day tickets ,I was hoping to check it out ,that they still do them and that they would have no problem with us. Didn,t intend to say anything until I,d checked ,but if is a go,well Ely has safe parking, toilets even shops if the missus comes along- and food and pubs by the river. Last week my mate had two zander one 9lb the other8lb and the are good pike in there to, even after the poles keep catching and eating them .I,ll try to find out more and post unless you know more than me stu,Boats are a nuisance but they disapear as it chills a bit. Any good as an idea ? Chris

That certainly sounds like a good choice and one to bear in mind for sure the biggest problem is finding somewhere safe to launch and with parking i`m looking at a couple of places i know hold fish in the winter that are not to deep or wide so should make catching a little easier its just getting access to it which i am looking into.

Ok stu, I,ll look more into Ely, you can launch there, see what other options come to mind, Earith to stives is good fishing but club controlled, the drains hard to get on! two minds should come up with something ! I also thought about the Lark, easy launching near the cut off, not sure if its all club or they let for day tickets, but thats a river with some big pike still.

i have the middle level,16ft,20ft,40ft and old nene to name but a few near me some are club controlled some are not all hold some very big pike but its rare you ever hear about them anymore the biggest issue is access on a lot of them due mainly to the steep banks hence the reason they tend to get ignored by most i`m sure between us we can find a venue to suit all we require ;D

i may be able to get to one or other but I won't know much in advance. somewhere pretty that also holds zander really appeals to me... I think each to their own on live/dead/lure fishing is the best way to put my feelings. I almost only lure fish for pike but sometimes stick out a livey when i have a deep-hooked silver. Oh yeah, if there are bleak, stickleback, minnow and loach there too i'll be well happy

I know with one or two sections it has been steep and I have had to 'rope' the yak up and down. Usually worth the effort though.
Mark, Bleak possibly in some areas, minnow and stickleback unlikely good chance of a rudd.

not sure i can do pretty !! as most of the drains are pretty boring with not much in the way of features some are treelined and would be a nice paddle during the spring and summer alas we are hitting it late autumn/winter.

I`m currently looking at the old nene, march as the venue this is "free" water with only an EA license req`d ;D being part of the middle level system i enquired some time ago about paddling the drains and was given the ok but asked to avoid the downstream section of the middle level drain from the aquaduct at upwell to the pumping station near kings lynn due to the way its pumped ( dont think they realise the tides some of us anchor in at sea) ;D ;D the sections i`m thinking of are always good for a few pike with road access to the majority of it limited it could throw up some suprises tho we have caught on most methods livebaiting does tend to be the most productive i have approached a couple of marinas in the area with the possibility of parking and launching only 1 has got back to me so far offering a touring pitch !!. For those that are interested in staying over i`ll post up the details if req`d .. i have replied asking about the possibilty of just parking for the day and using there small slip for launching ( its a good pike spot )and am awaiting a response on that. I will however continue to look at alternative venues What are your thoughts so far....??

I too have been talking and looking at possible spots, one very good spot I,m realy hoping to get permission ,but I,ll tell if they say yes! At Ely checked the slip is still open and usable,it is ,plenty of room to unload , and parking within 100yards is free-23 hours max, and there is a public toilet and food and drink all around. The niegbouring fishing is own by a club,Cooper AC I chatted to the bailiff and he said fishing from yaks ok, day ticket is £4 or-and I would recomend even just for the goodwill a years membership for £10. No need to write to the club, just go fishing with a tenner in your pocket and join when you see the baillif This would give 1 1/2 miles of good perch, pike and zander fishing, the club waters finish just short of Roswell pits, nuff said. They have matches most sundays so best avoided, I see this as a good long term fishing spot for myself certainly and anyone else who wants to fish this area. Local fish go 4lb perch ,20lb pike and 14lb zander, my little boy had his first zander here at 11lb and a 19lb pike -he,s lucky ;D Took some pics but when I checked them ,they were to dark,it was late , so when I take some more I,ll post them, Chris

That's one you should think about putting in the venues section Chris along with the Sunday recommended no fishing. Makes a change for a club to see the chance of some cash at a time when anglers are moving away to the commercials.

Have put a report in the river section Terry , will add some pictures when I can. I chatted to people who fish there more often than me, and they said good weather better for pike, sudden chilly spell better for zander and perch. If we don,t use it this time its certainly a good spot for a meet up.

The big positive for me will be no need for lowering the yak down the bank with a rope. ;D

your all welcome down to the river Arun good free parking, good spots to launch, miles of river and at least to pubs that do a lovely duck salad and a beer,i no anglers that have had pike out of the Arun up to 26lb but they say there has been 30s out? i have seen big pike and at a guess i would say 25+ easy.they say that pike fishing there from the banks is getting harder and it is coz all the fish are moving to the inaccessible areas just right for the yaks,as for the laws for fishing there i wouldn't have a clue and i don't really want to know lol.i have a fresh water fishing licence and insurance so that's just the ticket for me. i expect you chaps have plenty of good waters and not really worth the trip?
