Well spotted that man, I love the Game Fair and will be going. I usually take the guns and enter the clay pigeon competition, not so sure this year. It is a great day out but expensive if you are taking the family.

Did anyone go the Game Fair, I have to say it was not very good, in fact the worst I have been to.
Very good to meet the guys from Channel Kayaks, they have a good product, I should have had a go as we were soaking wet through so really it would not have been an issue even my shoes, socks and feet were bloody wet.
I hope they pick another venue in two years time when it returns to the north..............the clay shooting was crap as well.

We went on Saturday had a look round the chanel kayak stand are they fairly new in ghe uk? Managed to stay dry till we walked back to the car when we got soaked. One or two of the stall holders commented on the smaller number of traders there this time, wonder if the organisers are getting to greedy, pricing people out? Did think the fishing area was rather poor.

We were there on Saturday as well Graham. The gate figures were down by over 20,000 on last year and many of the gun manufacturers and dealers were not there. With over 600 yds from each section of the show, it was a long and wet walk to other areas. A good friend of mine organised the clay shoot and he was not happy with the area that was allocated and I didn't take my guns this time which I am pleased about as the walk from the car park to the shooting area was much too far when you have to carry all the gear. I will never go to Harewood again even if I had free tickets and certainly not to pay £60 for the two of us to get in.

Graham,
Channel Kayaks are a new outfit down near Bristol.
I know little about the company other than they say they had some influence on the kayaks when in fact they are a generic range that were being pitched to UK importers in the Autumn of 2013.
No idea how they are selling or how they perform.

During my chat with them, they advised me that they were looking to have the kayaks made in the UK. The kayak for the angler, I think is the Pro-Angler or something like that is really well laid out with a well thought out floor just to the front of the seat which drops down and therefore supports the legs, tricky to explain but heyho. www.channelkayaks.uk/kayaks/pro/pro-yellow/They have Chris Osborne, top fly angler onboard who collectively are making inroads into some fresh water venues such as Chew where talks are under way. They are also working closely with the RNLI which again is paying off according to them. It may well be worth you talking to them Terry as you may find a chat quite useful. Phil

I looked at them closely last year Phil. One of the directors is, like myself, an ex-police officer.
There are things they do that look very good but at times it looks a bit strange.
For instance Chris Ogborne singing the praises of the Pro from a fly anglers view. Has anyone ever heard of Chris fly fishing from a kayak? Don't you think one of the forums would have covered it?
He says the rod holder are perfect. Honestly? The rod holder looks like a bog standard style, have you ever tried carrying a fly rod in one, let alone putting one in the flush mounts? It is little things like that that rattle my cage a bit.
I may be totally wrong.
I also don't like the specs they put up for the smaller boats. Fair play they reduce the capacity when out in 'Rough Conditions' but should they really be advocating taking these very basic hulls out in rough conditions at all?
Their pricing for the Pro seems a bit speculative too. It is a generic Chinese hull with basic extras yet they price it at £200 more than a now proven hull, The Sturgeon, which has far more extras.
Call me an old cynic but I am just a little wary.

It was the ex policeman I spoke to and must confess the kayak was very similar to the Galaxy model but there were some differences to the top from the photo's I have seen. I didn't bother looking at the smaller kayaks, already have one and to be honest they don't interest me at all.
I take your point regarding Chris Osborne (or is it Ogborne) and I really don't know the answer but no matter anyway Terry, it was just an idea.

Fair comments Phil. As I say I have been watching them for a while. I think that they are in the price band of some of the big names and I think in reality they should be aiming at the £400-£600 sector. They have no pedigree to compete with the 'names' as yet. Terry
