Hi all
Does anyone know much about the Viking Profish range of kayaks?
As my search for a second hand extra yak that can be used on the sea is so far drawing a blank I am now contemplating a new yak. The viking range do look very good and I am particularly drawn to the reload.
Any feedback from anyone who knows of this brand would be greatly appreciated or any suggestions as to any others that should be on my radar?
Cheers Ian

Haven't seen one in the flesh but from what I've seen on the tinterweb they look nice. I like the centre pod they have. 4kg lighter than my Kraken which isn't a bad thing. Oh and have a look at the Kraken

Don't know if I could justify the price of a Kraken. The lift out tackle pod holding all the fish finder gear an tackle is very neat! Fi has one in at Wet & Wild I think so I might pop up tomorrow?

I have seen a couple of Viking Reloads and they look very good and attract admiring comments.
I may be wrong but I believe the whole FF system can be fitted in the pod and just lifted out.

if you can get over to Wet & Wild in Hull I believe Fiona stocks them.

Just looked at Fi's web site and they have an offer on the Profish 440 down from £1115 to £750. I saw the youtube on the 400 lite which is where I got 24kg so the Reload is 29kg and narrower.

The reload does have the removable pod which holds all your ff and tackle too. Saw the 400 lite at Dacre Lakes today as they were doing a safety course so popped for a look. Had my daughter with me so couldn't try it. It was very light though and a friend of stu's (shadstu64) tried it and rated it. They look well made as well. Might pop and see Fi tomorrow?

Hi Ian, Just wandering where you went with the Viking Pro fish kayaks you were looking at. I am in the market for something lighter than my 4.7 Ultra xt as it is getting too much to lug about. Still want centre storage and rod holders but not inclined towards glass, as I am not the easiest on gear.

Mick,
I have not paddled a Profish but have seen several and chatted to the owners.
I am hearing only positive things about them. Speed, stability and storage all seem comparable with the established brands.

Cheers Terry, I hope everything is comparable for the money they are for sale at. I probably could save some money by not getting a rudder, as I have never used mine on the Ultra 4.7. Another possible on my list was an OK Ultra 4.1 which are being discounted as they are supposedly going out of production, at £699 I could nearly buy 2 of these for the price of the Viking Reload. Unfortunately I have never seen or paddled one of these kayaks either !!!! Back to trawling the net for more reviews for now,
Mick

Hello mate I have got a Viking Reload. The Viking Reload offers a combination of the stability and functionality, with the grace and speed of a tourer, Reload is fast, stable to fish from, and a lot of fun to paddle.

Cheers for reply, did you get a rudder with it and if not do you feel it needs one? If you did get one, is the rudder permanently down, or can it be flipped up and down like with the OK kayak ones.
Sorry for the 20 questions m8, but no stockists that I can see near me (live on North West) and don't know anyone with one yet.

Sorry for the 20 questions m8, but no stockists that I can see near me (live on North West) and don't know anyone with one yet. Yes I have a rudder, fitted it myself very easy to do. Now with 'Toe Tab' foot controls. If you go more than 4 mph it seems to veer off to the right. yes the rudder is permanently down it is spring loaded, not a problem I have paddled over rope and weed. Next time we are at a meet together you can have a go mate. The Tackle Pod™ is interchangeable with a Kid Pod™ – basically the same shape but with a moulded seat to support a child sitting in front of the paddler. The Kid Pod™ is also a good platform for standing on the kayak to fly fish in sheltered waters.

Loss showed me the 'Kid Pod' at Oxwich. It looks great he takes his grandson out on it.
The whole pod concept is a great idea.

Cheers for the reply fellas and especially for the offer of a trial Woodnut. Think I am gonna take the plunge, 50 years old next month, and think I deserve a treat. Just need to sort a price, Kent canoes got a deal on but have got to sort transport back to North West...probably negate any savings knowing my luck.
