I don't know about you guys but the fishing around my area is a bit slow to say the least. Altop and two friends from the LAC forum met up during the Xmas break to fish a lake near me with a grand total of ZERO fish caught. This is a place that has given me some good perch and smaller pike sport through the year but it appeared that they all went away for the Xmas holiday. Altop was fishing from the kayak and the rest of us were fishing the banks, all with lures of completely different styles to see what was working but none did. I do sometimes miss my kayak as I watched Alan paddle off to some tight areas that you cannot fish from the bank although I still have my Mysto but that is just not suited to fishing with my weight, hmmmm, exercise and diet this year..................perhaps.
The rivers nearby are also very hard work with some rivers dropping their levels to allow for the heavy rains. I should explain that in North Lincolnshire the rivers run into the Humber so it is easy to drop the level. This has caused the water quality to change as water from the land is swept into the rivers bringing whatever it carries from the farmers fields. My local river, the Ancolme has been dropped by approx 4' leaving about 6 - 8' of mud either bank so not ideal for fishing and linked to this the water is rather like bisto. My friend of mine who fishes another river has had some very good pike fishing during the last few months but again the sport has stopped.
Of course the flooding in North Yorks and Cumbria has again created unfishable waters in those regions. I hope non of our members have been flooded, if so you have my deepest thoughts as I was flooded back in 2007 when this region took a pounding so I do know what it is like to lose your home for many months, in our case almost a year.
Doom and gloom finished, I hope you guys all had a good Xmas and New Year and are now getting ready to go fishing. Let us hear from you even if it is from the Bank if kayaking is not suitable due to conditions and safety.
Tight lines
