There's countless lure boxes available from many manufacturers for smaller minnow profiled lures but I could never find something I was happy with to store larger lures. When bank fishing I used to hang the larger lures around the lip of a bucket and fish from that which was ok but it lacks practicality on a kayak and every time I've gone out I've had to make do with generic tackle boxes with large compartments storing 2 or three lures on top of each other.
Like most lure fisherman I have lure OCD. The sight of a tangled mass of lures is one of pain and as such not being able to store my lures while out fishing in a neat fashion takes something away from the experience. I was looking for a suitable box online and I came across a post on a yank forum where someone uses drain pipe sections in a bucket to separate lures.
I took that idea and built from it. Using lengths of 1.5" and 2" solvent weld waste pipe I've been able to make 'custom' dividers. Round isn't an ideal shape for storing lures so I warmed the sections gently in the oven (while Vicki was out) to soften them and then pressed down to flattened them slightly. Once I was happy with the layout it was a case of using solvent cement to join the sections together and then to secure them to the box.
Top row holds replicants and 20cm line through trout with the second row holding my super shad raps and jointed xraps in a snug fashion. Then I've got my smaller unrigged softs in ziplock bags, a box for jig heads and stingers and then another lure box to hold my smaller lures.
Atleast when I blank at Bala tomorrow I can do so happy knowing my lures feel loved haha
