Hi guys. Thought I'd better start getting some bits together ready for the comp at Grafham. I'm sure it's been asked on here already but what weight jig and hook size should I be getting? I'm sure I'll find some more lures I like the look of but it's jigs I need to sort out.

I would guess 40/50 gms size 3/0 with 4" shads if you are looking for the Zeds Andy.

I'm slowly but surely getting ready too. I ordered more lures last Friday so they should come tomorrow. Ordered some of the fox spikey shads, they look the business Some super sharp VMC jig hooks turned up today in the post so I will no doubt will be putting lead on them tomorrow. Got some Diawa J braid to try aswel for the jigging aswel. As part of the rules it states the hooks must be barbless in order to comply with Grafham rules. Terry I don't suppose you would know if they are ok with lures that have had the barbs crimped to non existence?

Andy, iIf you see any 40/50g size 3/0 jig heads then snap them up. I had a bit of trouble getting hold of them last year as they are an unusual size and was always out of stock!

Just loaded up a bait caster with 8lb braid. Proper thin it is, but would hopefully perform better for vertical jigging. Just need a suitable rod now...

Andy, iIf you see any 40/50g size 3/0 jig heads then snap them up. I had a bit of trouble getting hold of them last year as they are an unusual size and was always out of stock! Ian Kell at lure factors has a stock of smaller hook sized jig heads in large weights. If you can't see what you want just get in touch and he will do his best to make you some. I tend to use 3/0 for 3", 4/0 for 4" etc When it's not windy in depths to around 35' 15 to 20g heads are fine, around the tower in 90' 50g is better all fished on tried and trusted good old power pro in 10lb or 8lb for the brave. I wouldn't advocate 10lb for crank baits though as its not worth the risk with treble hooks and would step up to 20lb.... There's some very big pike in there Salmo perch in the natural perch colour trolled over 12/15' of water can be productive as well.

Cheers guys, found some on eBay and a few other sites. Altought I've been fishing for years I've never really done much jigging so I'm going to try get some practice in. Just loaded up a bait caster with 8lb braid. Proper thin it is, but would hopefully perform better for vertical jigging. Just need a suitable rod now... Now you've done it! I've been trying to convince myself I don't need another rod and that I could get by using one of my lure rods! Oh well, yet another rod and probably reel I've got to convince the wife I've always had
