Hello all.
I would like some info. Just to clear up some confusion I'm having. I want to fish a local canal to me. I'm already a member of the club and they said I could fish the canal from my Kayak, but according to the Canal and river trust that the club lease the water from I could only fish from.a kayak that is actually moored up. I wouldn't be trolling, but having to Moor up seems a bit pointless. Is this correct?
Cheers Andy

Sorry Andy mate but CRT Rules do state that you must be thethered to the towpath bank. You are not under any circumstances allowed to drop an anchor.
The reason for the tethering is because boats are not expecting any moored vessels on the far bank and navigate with that in mind.
The no anchoring is because canals are man made and due to that the substrata after all these years is delicate and nationally the CRT are spending a fortune on leakage caused by damage to the canal bed and banks.

Cheers for that. Seems a shame as some of the spots i wanted to access are on the non towpath side.
What's again thank you for taking the time to reply.
Cheers Andy

Just to broaden my reply here is what I posted on Andy's thread on Anglers Afloat this may help others wondering about canal fishing. Terry ========== The main reason for the tethering to towpath bank is due to other boat traffic. All boats will be only expecting craft to be moored to the towpath and will navigate a course that takes that into consideration hence they could veer towards the far bank leaving you vulnerable. This is particularly so when it is a long barge negotiating a bend where they may have to push the bows towards the far side. Plus the CRT are trying to make the far bank a safe place for wildlife. The anchoring rule is because after many year the man made structure of most canals is showing it's age. Repairs leakage and erosion are a constant strain on the CRT's meagre budget. Hence there trepidation in having any anchoring that, no matter how slight, may cause damage to the delicate sub strata. For many people the CRT Waterways Wanders ticket is excellent value for money. canalrivertrust.org.uk/enjoy-the-waterways/fishing/waterway-wanderers-scheme Here is a list of the stretches currently available. canalrivertrust.org.uk/media/original/24191-waterway-wanderers-list-july-2016.pdf An easier way to find exactly where you can go use the link below. It gives a list of their waters, click on the water you are searching for and waters on the Wanderers ticket come up in orand. Many other stretches will also flag up the clubs that control them with contact details. canalrivertrust.org.uk/media/original/24191-waterway-wanderers-list-july-2016.pdf Terry
