A little under 2 weeks to go now and I was kinda expecting an update on the web page, an email, a text, a pigeon... anything. But nothing yet. The money was paid and my name is on the participants list but that's it. Anyone else heard/seen anything? Mainly want to know things about the camping/hospitality on site, where do we pick permits/tickets up and what time can we start fishing on the Saturday. Otherwise, i'm just going to rock up early Saturday morning and sit outside the gate until i'm ushered in.

Some of the lads at Pitsford had received stickers for their kayaks.
Chase up Gary Palmer, his email is on the web page.

I think the sticker is your registration number so you can be identified on the water. I am sure he will get things moving soon, I hope so anyway.

Just seen a message on FB from Gary Palmer saying he hopes to get emails out this week, but he is in Devon with a dodgy signal.

Email received, hope everyone has third party insurance I'd of thought the event would have been fully insured myself.

That's a bit of a surprise.
All our major events are insured by the organisers.
Anglian do have a rule that individuals must have 3rd Party Liability Insurance but that was waived for the Pitsford Slam as the organisers had it sorted and as such the individual cover was not applicable.
In all honesty I don't think that this is the appropriate way to run an event.

Errrr... is that not covered by our BCU licence? email received too - bloody red tape all over it. Reminds me why I moved away from matches and the like back in the 80's. Oh well, compliance is the word I guess if I still want a go on an iconic venue, learning a lot from other lure anglers and in with a chance of a beasty pike, perch or zander

Dead right Al. BCU or Angling Trust membership will give the required cover as will membership of SWKA. Sadly a few still don't see the need for insurance. Terry

If you don't get to your favourite mark first in that racing snake of yours Steve, then I will be very disappointed :-)

Been looking through all the rules and bits and pieces. What's the "Unique fish tag label" they mention wh n photographing the catch? All the Big fish in Grafham have names like Charles for example. If you catch a big fish you must first identify the individual fish from a catalogue issued at the briefing then hold the name tag in the picture the marshals can assist if needed. I'm messing, it's something about a card and stickers Dave told me last week. Each fish you catch you put a sticker on your card or something along those lines so you can't show duplicated photos to marshals etc. I'm sure it will be covered in the briefing, atleast Im hoping so

I thought you were serious then! I was thinking I'm not sitting there wasting my fishing time trying to work out if I've caught Tom or Mildred!! I thought it might be along those lines, I'm sure all will become clear

i was really looking forward to this event......but after being blown around rutland water for five hours with alex and suffering a bloody stiff neck for days afterwards (grumpy old bugger me) then i may go camping with wife and kids (may get a sneaky go on horsey mere) instead.Does that mean 60 notes wave bye bye down the swany river ? :-{

Don't bail too early Mike. Here's the response I got from Gary when I asked about policy on weather...
"The weather is a right nightmare as you never know until the day. A final decision would not be made until each morning. Grafham is notoriously difficult to call in advance we have the option to move start times shorten days etc Regards Gary"

Wind direction will make it rough around the towers and deeper areas, so working a lure ? slowly ? 50 gm heads won,t be enough ! I hope they postpone it really now, if it can be .

I'm making a decision Friday morning as there's still plenty of time for a change in forecast but I certainly won't be driving 3hrs to sit in a field all weekend in the off chance we can do a few hours fishing.
Enough with the self pity though, I Feel sorry for all the lads who are needing to use there passport to get here! They must be praying to all the gods.
