There is a stretch of the River Trent near Newarke to which a club has fishing rights but no access rights to the bank.
This causes a problem as this almost virgin water is part of a renowned barbel, bream and pike fishery along with zander, chub and roach of course.
The club have agreed that members can kayak fish this stretch so long as they do not actually fish from the bank which is a nature reserve and angling, hunting and shooting are banned within it's confines.
Membership is £40 a year but you get access to all their waters with the bonus of one of the very few 'authorised' kayak fisheries. Some cracking waters. I believe members can buy a guest ticket for £5, I will confirm this later. AT THIS JUNCTURE I MUST POINT OUT THAT THIS IS THE ONLY WATER YOU WILL BE ALLOWED TO KAYAK FISH!! ANY BREACH WILL BRING AN END TO THE AGREEMENT.
There is easy access to the venue, 30 yards to launch and 30 yards from a pub. It is about 3/4 mile long and the area has produced double figure barbel, ton up bream hauls and pike in the twenties
If you are interested and I have got you interested I will gladly give more details.

Here is a trip I had there a few years ago. Ley me just say I always use an unhooking may now. ;D Arrived early and the river looked perfect. Flat calm, misty and moody. Temperature 4 degrees. Sun breaking through. Looked like a nice day was coming in. Martyn arrived and after half an hour of chatting and him giving me my frozen smelt we decided it was time to wet the yaks. Martyn kindly let me try his favourite swim. After an hour or so with no takes we had a shuffle round. In my third swim just under a bush on the far bank I finally had a take. After 10 minutes of arm aching this lovely creature came on board weighing in at 15 1/2 lb. I think I will call it Moira after my first wife! It was short and thick nice to capture but more than happy to let go!! Not before she had drawn a little blood though. We fished on and it was not until 2pm that Martyn had a run Which saved his day and in came a very welcome 5 pounder. Although i fished on till 5:30 not another run could be found. But what a great day we had the weather was fantastic, the comany was great and I have found a perfect launch point for the Trent.

Here are the full details. It is the Trent at Farndon, upstrem of Newarke. Check google maps. maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=pub+farndon+newark&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&ei=WymtT4H5K6O_0QX6xuWxCQ&sa=X&oi=mode_link&ct=mode&cd=3&ved=0CBoQ_A UoAg If you zoom right in you will see a slipway and a pontoon with a long boat, St Johns Ambulance wheelchair boat. The stretch starts just upstream of the pontoon for about 3/4 of a mile. Hopefully I will get the exact point before the season starts. I fished it for a while when a guy told me it was day ticket, just for pike though. My best was 18-12 and he had a 26 pounder. Just upstream on some permanent pegs there have been some massive bags of bream there are also barbel zeds etc. I had to stop fishing once I had spoken with Dave Turner the secretary of Notts AA, I did not want to ruffle any feathers. www.nottinghamanglers.co.uk/home.htmlThe stretch is not listed there as no one can fish it ...... apart from us now. It is £40 but as I have said to others 4 trips and it is only a tenner a go. No parking charge no launch fee. It is going to take time to suss it out but I think it is worth the effort and with the work done on the A46 the journey is a doddle. Terry

Cheers Terry - will definitely join the club, looks like a nice stretch of water and probably only an hours run from me. Will look to put some hours into for the Perch in the Spring and the Pike from October onwards
All the best John

It also has a reputation for bream, barbel, chub, roach and zander.
There is some really deep water and the navigation channel drops off quite a bit too. Barges passing are not an issue but some of the gin palaces forget abot the speed restrictions.
There is a toilet on the car park, a pub 20yds away and a restaurant next door. It is literallu 20 yards from the parking to the water and all 5 minutes from the A46 so easy to get to.
If you want to take a mate you can get a day ticket for them from local tackle dealers.

Ian,
The main stretch is season ticket but there is an area of about 400 m that is free.
It is rumoured that there are 3+ lbs in this stretch.

I don't know the guy but I've seen him a couple of times. He fishes off his boat, if you look there's a keep net on the pontoon so I suspect he caught it overnight and photographed it early morning. He's a moron, moors up where he wants to fish and gets very aggressive with other river users. His fish handling skills are atrocious and I suspect he is responsible for the downturn of the zander and pike angling in the area.

You will probably have a key somewhere near the top right of the keyboard that has 'Prt Scn' or similar on it. I think that is the windows layout. You may have to press Shift and the Prt Scn key. This will copy the screen to the Clipboard. Open any Photo program, Click File/New and you should have a blank page, Right Click your mouse on the page and you should get 'Paste' Click paste and the image should appear on the page. Failing that there should be a Paste option in probably the 'Edit' drop down at the top of the page. Save the image as a jpeg then just upload to Photobucket as normal. Terry

Those first pictures at the begining of this section looks very appealing, have fished the trent off the bank but never off any kind of boat something which must be changed,so prehaps a meet could be sorted.
