I was sat thinking a few nights ago (dangerous i know), most of my bank fishing is heavily biased towards feeder and ledger fishing in some form or another, especially when it comes to bream and tench. I was just wondering how others go about targeting these fish from kayaks if at all? Are there any methods that lend themselves to kayak fishing a bit better or is it as simple as sticking a bucket of ground bait and a box of maggots on the deck! Cheers

First thing is being able to keep the yak static. If you are on the Fens you can just tether to the rushes, if you are away from the bank you may need to anchor from bow and stern to stop yourself swinging on the anchor rope. Before anchoring what I have done is had a pike float with a 2oz bomb below it. I paddled out to the swim, drop the bomb and tie it off to the float and use it as a marker. Drop ground bait about 5ft short of the float. Then drop a bomb or swim feeder attached to your rod & reel over the ground bait. Paddle back to your anchor point letting line out all the way. Clip your line down when anchored and you now have the perfect distance for your swim and the marker float gives you your direction. Works the same for a float. You also have the mark for throwing more balls of ground bait in later. Easy as that. Terry

I use a sliding self setting float, sometimes with a feeder ,sometimes not. when I chose a couple of spots I'll drop a bit of ground bait in both, then pick one set in a good casting spot and anchor. if its quiet I'll try the other.take a catapult or two..I often put my mud anchor an arms reach up the bank and amidship, just sometimes I'll be out in the open. I do like to fish a float for beam and tench but find rivers that are clear have boats and rowers ,and the rest weed up by July ! Best thing then is find a swim in an out of the way spot and keep it clear. I do use a quivertip but anchor front and back or wedge by a bank crumble /fall /weed/rushes.
