After last years piking antics it's rolled around time again soon for "the pike cup" Glen " couple of jacks Paterson " (as cup is engraved) is our current drinker from the cup most pikey . Who will be this years happy quaffer ? Normal kick off is nine in morning from Wroxham car park on Bure meet for eight for bleary eyed bacon coffee and brew of choice. This is also a good time to swop stories , wave lures around and generally tell lots of piscatorial lies :-) Good idea to have ship to shore radio (on eight ) so everyone can keep in touch . The cup is awarded to the catcher of the longest pike (on the day ) evidence of catch is photo next to boat cm measure . It's a social friendly competition just for fun and kayak pike fishermen . Generally we will knock off at around four depending on how brass the monkeys are . Questions welcome if I have left anything out let me know . If I can get my folks to have my lad I'll be up for it. Anyone wanna fish Sunday too? I'll camp over as it's a fair drive for me and have a paddle Sunday too.

I can't Andy but one of the locals might. But don't worry if you're on your own, you'll get to grips on that gorgeous bit of river and want to do it by yourself the following day anyway! Thing is though... if you come and win the thing, you'll be expected to defend your title at the same venue the following year

Nipped off to the bure the other day and managed to bag my biggest kayak pike a double right off the bottom .Best hardest fighting pike I have caught and aint she a booty ? Bit early for the cup dam it :-) Pieman Ps Andy , Alex is right it's a great stretch of water to fish with huge potential for both lures and bait fishing for toothies. Although I would love to fish again Sunday my wife may have other ideas :-(. Oh well once a week isn't bad (and I get to go fishing too )

Thanks will see you there. I have never fished the area before, I am basically a lure angler, any tips on lure choice?

One question do we need any day tickets/permits, other than the usual rod licence?

Looks a nice stretch, lots of little side streams. Does any method go? Any other little rules?

To reiterate... it's a fun meet up and a chance to fish an iconic gorgeous venue that's somewhere different with a chance of a decent one. - As its a meet rather than an organised event, it'll be at your own risk etc. - No extra day tickets or permits (apart from BCU but that's your decision). - You'll be fishing in anything from 4ft - 8ft, not much weed (if any) but marginal trees/branches will provide snags. Around Wroxham, there will be moored boats which also provide features. - There may be cruisers/other users on the river and bank anglers to be aware of and respect. - There will be bacon. Lure wise... i'd go for anything that trolls/retrieves around 4-5ft or plastics that you can retrieve skipping along nr bottom if that's your thing. On Saturday it was gin clear but with the imminent rain, I expect it to be coloured and a bit higher. Basically, bring your lure box Deadbaits also worth a go of course. Hope that helps.

Does anyone have a spare anchor I could use? Need to replace one I lost but want to wait and see what santa brings.

Andy... you'll be ok tethering off to the abundance of trees on the river. Simple paddle (on leash) chuck over a branch or drop your anchor trolley over a twig. Sorted. Failing that, lash a couple of bricks together and use that as an anchor as there won't be that much flow :-)

I had seen those a little while back but had totally forgotten about them. Might have to treat myself. Do we need a day ticket for the stretch we'll be on and are live baits ok? I'm going to drive up Friday night and was planning to try and bag up on some livies in the morning.

Or you could go into somewhere like pound land or similar and buy a couple of those black clamps, drill a hole in the handle or pass the cord through the middle they work just as well, think Terry posted something about using them awhile ago. According to an earlier post we don't need a day ticket.
