Cracking chub no matter what it was caught on
Have you tried lure fishing for chub yet? Amazing how predatory they are.

yes well sort of i have caught five chub on a fly and h sedge to be precise . 5lb 8oz the largest ....down here a four pound chub doesnt get weighed a five pound chub might but only warrents a pic in the net and not untill you get toa six pound chub do you ring a mate to do a photo and even then you wont bother sometimes ..i have had 460 chub over five pound with 106 over six pound and seven sevens ..a good three quarters of the chub i have caught over five pounds were caught on rubber casters or plastic maggots ....i do fish a lot but i intend to help others catch chub this winter by giving away some tricks of the trade ....as for chub on actual lures and being predatory ...hmmm well i remember when baliffing acouple of years ago coming apon a group of anglers in the copse ...hi lads can i do your tickets please ..WHAT IS WRONG WITH THESE CHUB EXCLAIMED ONE ANGLER ...dont mind him said another he is miffed that your chub will not take a minnow ...I PUT IT RIGHT BEHIND HIM AND HE DIDNT EVEN FLINCH EXCLAIMED THE MIFFED ONE ...Have you tried maggot or bread or boilies or pellets i asked ...WHAT FOR THEY ALWAYS EAT MINNOWS .well these chub are very large and very lazy try some maggots...of they scuttled except the miffed one who just kept on moaning ...are well there is no helping some people . looks like a lovely weekend for fishing so one day on the chub and one on the pike ..no seafishing as mate is away playing golf ..doh them cod are calling me .

Have you tried the artificial bread Cam. I keep seeing it in the shop and think 'No Way'. But if the maggots and casters work the bread might too.

it works for carp but i am told the japanease swimming bread is better . the artificials have been a revalation for chub likewise tench with the castors and the maize and corn ....and i did catch my pb river roach on artificil pellets tiny ones ..

I have avoided them as a gimmick....I will have to rethink things. Do the maggots and casters stay on the hook OK or do you put a little drop of super glue on?

The maggots are fine just on the hook i hair rig the castors though and the corn .Getting back to the tench lure.......so i am chub fishing again and this angler approaches with a bloody great lure on his rod ...A big rainbow trout ...thats a big lure you got there mate ...it is isnt it ...he replied ... there is this lad who gets down here with one just as big but its a tench ...thats Gav he replied .He had fifeteen pike out the other day ....i had twenty eight he reposted ...that is some catch ...he then informed me that there was these people on the internet trying to find out where the big lures come from...he has advised gav to say nothing ...then he showed me a thirty six pound fish on his phone he had caught from chew a week or so back ...i know he comes from exeter so my search continues .its funny isnt it some people will help others fear it could effect their fishing ....he then asked if he could have a cast in my swim ...so being that i am a helpful sort i said yes but he caught nought ...but i did see he had heavy braid on his multipler and i noted his rod was similar in size and stature to my suveran 12 to 20 .. hmmm nust look at exeter angling ...

Congratulations Cam....is he your first?
You will love the day you take him kayaking and he catches a fish or two.
I certainly love time on the water with my eldest grandson....cannot wait for the others to get old enough.
