The River Wissey is a medium sized Fenland river which enters the River Great Ouse about half a mile above Denver Sluice. In its upper reaches it is a fast flowing preserved trout stream, but in its lower reaches it is a slow to medium paced river with a good head of typical fenland coarse fish. John Wilson lists the following specimens from the River in his "Where to Fish in Norfolk and Suffolk" guide: Pike 32lbs., brown trout 12lbs. 14oz., chub 8lbs. 4oz. In recent times the fish population, especially the predators seem to have been under siege somewhat, but there are still signs of good fish about. Slipway by the bridge in Hilgay village. View from a bridge. View from upstream looking down. Winter sunset downstream from the A10. Some of the stories of large scale fish removal are quiet scarey and I wonder how much longer rivers like this one can take it?

Another attempt at posting R.Wissey pictures from photobucket. I don't know what went wrong last time; they appeared to post, but too big! View from Hilgay old bridge. Slipway at Hilgay old bridge. On the river downstream from the A10 road bridge.
