Looks like a nice rod and didn't break the bank. You will have to let us know how you get on with it. Graham

I wanted an ultra light for drop shot but I didn't want to lay out a fortune until I was into it. Tronix seem to be establishing a good reputation especially at the price.

It may sound a bit silly but as we are on kayaks, could you use one of those whip tip shorty poles, I will bring one on the 15th and have a go.

Terry Terry i have the DAM calybr dropshot rod drom Askari...£40 so again doesnt break the bank teamed withy a yozikawa 1000 size reel off the bay for fifteen squid both of which are far better than the price suggests and the reel is uber tiny...Steve

I will have a look Steve. I have a small reel that was cheap. It looks so easy to go really expensive on this UL gear but I don't think there is any real need to. I know the quality will vary but do we relly need to spend £150 on a lightweight reel? Especially when we cannot afford it.
Phil, a whip had crossed my mind but the problem is depth. At Rudyard we were fishing in near 30ft of water and it would mean a long old whip. In shallower water maybe.

I am not saying for one moment that a whip would match the rod/reel combo but I have a few of these that my daughters had and one is a 5 or 6mt which cost me £8.50 from Fishing republic which may work in shallower water than Rutland. I am the first to admit that I do not like pole type fishing but it might be useful. I will chuck them in the car next week so you guys who know a load more than me about drop shot fishing can make a judgement. If someone wants to set one up they can, I don't know what to do. Phil

them yozikawa reels are worth every penny i'd say,the build seems spot on and you get a spare spool.

Daz my one is suprisingly smooth for the money small amount of spool slop but other than tha superb ,The 1000 size when compared to my mates Mitchell 500 ultralight avocvet gold reel seem exactly the same body wise...balance a UL rod superbly. Shimano quality no but neither is the price...good drag to steve.

Maybe I have made a mistake but I thought you said in an earlier post that you had an old fly rod that you were going to try and use.
