Just joined the site, been a keen Piker for over 15 years from boat and bank, now just got my first Yak OK 4.3 Ultra in go faster camo!! with the intention of Piking in the winter but mixing it up with sea fishing during the summer. No doubt I will be asking for help and advice!!
All the best John

You are very welcome John.
You will notice loads ofus are focusing on predators at the moment. The kayak is perfect for getting to those awkward to reach swims.

Cheers for the warm welcome lads much appreciated, yes really looking forward to putting the Yak to some use, I am lucky to have alot of rivers local but also fancy a go in the lakes such as Coniston and Ulswater for the Perch, wish I'd found this site earlier because looking at the Yaks some are using I am now not sure if the OK 4.3 is going to be too big for the rivers??
All the best John

John, The 4.3 is without doubt a great kayak and on bigger rivers and The Lakes it will be no problem. It is true many move down to 13' or even 10' for smaller rivers, canals and drains. They just give you more flexability when you want to turn quickly or get into the little nooks and crannies.
Having said that if you are using it for sea fishing too and can only afford one kayak then the 4.3 will be fine. I think it is better and safer to compromise for the coarse fishing rather than the more dangerous sea fishing.

Thanks Terry put my mind to rest, it does seem that Yaks keep their value quite well so if I do need to drop down a size hopefully money wise I might not be to worse off, but will stick with 4.3 and see how it goes.
All the best John

Hello John and welcome aboard. As a first boat you've certainly gone for a good one. The 4.3 is a great fast, stable and versatile kayak for both fresh and salt water in a variety of conditions. There are'nt that many left now and unlikely to be many more coming into the country so it's also a good investment. Enjoy!

Is this because the 4.3 is being discontinued or that the flow of OK yaks to the UK has slowed down?
Latest news on the OK range seems to have dried up they do not seem to want to be represented on the fishing forums the same way that JO did.

Sadly the supply from across the pond is drying up. We've just cleaned the importers out of their last ones. ;D This Monday I actually have a 4.3 in yellow coming is but this is only 1 of 3 left. It's the same with most of the other popular OK boats, I'm afraid.

Cheers lads for all the replies, thanks the comments about the Yak Terry and Banaman you have given me some re-assurance I got a good Yak.
Yes Mick would love to have a trip out, I do alot of Piking on the rivers in the winter and can't wait to have a go in the Yak, wouldn't mind seeing how you've got yours kitted out if there's any chance.
Thanks Al and for all your advice and help with the paddle, drysuit etc, I got the boots on Monday as well so cheers for that.
Currently nursing two slipped discs pulling my aluminium boat through the snow last Saturday!! Ouch.
All the best John

Especially good news as there will soon be some badly needed Trident 13's. Don't know how many but they are coming! Due in a few weeks.
