I am going to dig out my fly tying gear and have a go at pike flies but needed a little help with styles and came across this, not sure if this was linked from something else but nevertheless will be my start point. pikeshack.co.uk/This is also very interesting www.pffa.co.uk/tieapikefly.htmPhil

you will not get a better teacher than Dave mcfluffchucker www.youtube.com/user/mcfluffchuckerive done a few of my own creations but not had alot of chance to try them mate not really a copy of anything but they do move and flutter about once in water. i found tying them very therapeutic and a lot of fun (maybe i need to get out more )

Well Daz , old chum, long standing friend, best buddy, I am very happy to give em a whirl if you fancy making a couple for me, pretty please. I have not made any flies for some years and must confess it was not one of my better skills with those tiny hooks but big flies look far more interesting. Just remembered I have loaned the fly tying gear to a pal of mine, must give him a call and get it back. Phil

Well that's the gay ear-rings Daz where are the pike flies? Terry get your tying kit out mate as i wouldnt want you out fishing EVERYONE using my flies seriously though mate, you must of enjoyed tying as you brought the kit ? that gliss and slint stuff is so easy to work with and to be honest i'd say a pike would attack most things that flutter past them at the right time. Yes you are right Daz, I am quite looking forward to getting my gear back to have a play.
What hooks do you use, I had thought of using 4/0 mustad vikings as they are really strong and I have about 100.

Phil to be honest phil i can not say which is best as im very green on the whole fly fishing side of things...i used big mouth extras 3/0 and 4/0 but im sure ive read of people using the vikings with great success www.veals.co.uk/acatalog/varivas-big-mouth-xtra-1372.html

I had a chat with Simon from 'Pikeshack' today. Really nice chap and very helpfull. Placed my order for a few flies and other bits, got a feeling that I will be going to his house before too long to try out a few fly rods.

Here we go again, 1st flies and lines, clips etc have arrived AND a Reddington 10# rod is being sent for me to have a play with , Ohhh this is going to cost me.

Daz I'm not certain yet but just sat there are the following
Greys Greyflex M2 9' 6'' 6/7# used twice, bought for my wife but not interested. A sweet rod to cast. Greys G-Tec 10' 7# fantastic casting machine Orvis Frequent Flyer 7 piece 9' 5# a real joy to use, casts 6# well And a couple of others which do not hold much value so they might as well stay in the garage.

I dont enjoy trout fishing and most of the time I fished for coarse fish, rudd, roach, perch and chub with all three of these rods. The Greyflex with a 6# line is ideal. If you are interested in any, let me know.

Hi Alan Got ot go over to Horncastle on Sat, going to the gunsmith. Will try on Sunday even if it is from the bank, I am wanting to try out this Redington 10# rod. May do Ashby Ville lake either on kayak or a bit of wading. I have a feeling that it may be a short session if the weather is going to be nasty but there again I'm HARD so I will take a brolly, hot water bottle, blanket and bait fish from the warmth of cover Phil
