Hi all I'm a self employed gas fitter from doncaster a so new to kayaking it is unreal in fact I don't have one lol. Really fancy giving it ago and getting where other anglers cannot. I would mainly be on canals and lakes but would like to have a go off the east coast in the summer, So really needing a lot of advice and I bet a lot of the questions have been asked before At the minute I am looking at two yaks both at around £360 a moken 12 or a ocean prowler trident 13 So any hints would be gratefull.

Firstly ...Welcome Kell. There are one or two members in the Lincs and Humberside area including one of our stalwarts Philpot who lives near Scunny.
Kell have you tried any of the kayaks? One thing that is always recommended is to try before you buy.
When are you thinking of buying? Philpot is arranging a meet in the Scunny area in the near future. Depending who is there there will be a selection of kayaks that I am sure we will all let you have a quick go in. There might even be a spare one for you to borrow for the day.
Plus if you can hang on a new range of Mokens is being launched in the next couple of months that are looking interesting. Mind you if you are talking £360 I guess you have been looking at 2nd hand.
Look forward to seeing you at a meet mate.
Terry

Yes they are used terry but that way I will not have a lot tied up in it seeing as though I will need quite a few more items PDF dry suit fish finder etc I would love to get to some locations I know of which are only accessible from the water .
I have not tried any yet as I do not know anyone with a yak?
But I am sure the owner of the trident will let me try it as he runs the fishing on a lake which allows kayaking and that is where I will learn the trade lol

We are constantly trying to find venues that allow kayak fishing. If ou know of one Kell it would be greta to stick it in the venues section.
We are trying to get a list together so that we can get people to suitable waters and also to reward those waters with revenue.

I will have a word I know there is a fee for the year but there are some nice size fish !
Just seen that one of the yaks is in the fishing shack so I guess it may be suitable for sea as well ?

Both should be suitable for sea fishing, just make sure you get used to being a kayaker before you try being a sea kayak angler and have a few trips with someone. It can be very scarey out there.

hello that would be steves part ex boat i think ya mean
the moken 12 is fine for the sea and has lots of storage in the front flap hatch thingy steve used it for just over a year and a half and got a new boat a week or two ago
The tridents are a great yak too a great fishing platform
The good thing about a moken is you dont need a c tug ,unless is real bad ground and ya dont have to find a place to store ya tug etheier
I have used both boats and the moken was very stable , prob more so than the trident but it was a little numb, that said i quite like a kayak that wants too fall over so im not a great adviser
I do like the camo look it.s like a action man yak ,,steve when he bought it new had to wait 5 months just coz he wanted that camo he did replace it with a camo boat this time only much longer and it took 24 hrs to come he was happy!

hello Kell and welcome aboard.
As Terry said, I live in North Lincs, a short hop from the Humber Bridge and work in Sheffield so Donny is on my door step.
Very happy to let you have a go on my kayak Big Game and I have a few small ones that you can play on. The only problem is that the water is very cold at the moment so a drysuit would be advisable.
A kayak is very personal---it is a personal water craft and it has to suit you so I would not buy without looking closely and really you need to try it out. I will bore you with a little tale, I had seen the new Ocean Ultra 4.3 being shown in a magazine from the US and fell in love there and then. I could not wait, this was the kayak for me and I almost broke the rule to buy on photos. I waited until I actually got the chance to sit on one and found that for me it just did not have enough leg room because of a central pod. Still a cracking kayak but not for me.
Feel free to send me a PM if you want to meet up and chat.
Phil

It seems to be a minefield out there but i have pmed phil so he might be able to point me in the right direction. Our lass is buying it and all my gear has cost me no more than a £10 an item ( and i am kidding myself if i think she belives me ) but that is the stock answer i have used for years and i am not changing now. loomis rod that looks nice how much was that £10 duck is reply ?
any way lol i am not the lightest person on the block at 110kg and i need to be able to put yak on roof rack by my self.did have a small boat once but needed two to launch so was very little used and ended up selling it.
When it comes to a dry suit are they made on the large size to go over clothing? sorry if that is a stupid question.

Kell, It is NEVER a stupid question mate. Ask away that is the idea of forums. Drysuits are specifically designed to be worn over clothes. That is the great thing dependant on weather you can add layers of insulation so the suit can cope with Summer or the depths of Winter and as they are usually breathable they are OK in warmer times. As for size........Typhoon Multisport do deal specifically make suits for the 'fuller figure'. ;D Terry
