Have been looking for a kayak for mainly freshwater fishing that would also be ok on the sea. My two main factors were stability and ability to rig the kayak to suit my needs. Found a good deal on a k-largo which seemed to fit the bill, and although not one of the latest models, thought it had a few good features. It has a removable dry storage pod up front and came with a tackle box. By adapting a couple of scotty mounts and old bank sticks i managed to knock up a feeder rest and baitwaiter. It has two hatches for access and an area behind the seat for a baitbox. This is by no means a light kayak as the plastic is pretty thick (very similar to the mokens) and it isn't going to set any speed records but it's fast enough for what i need and extremely stable. Took it out for a paddle on the canal at the weekend and was very pleased with it. Alfie likes it to Nice perch and tench peg that i'll be revisiting.

These hexagonal bank sticks fit perfect inside a scotty base as well.

I have never seen one of these before and I must say, this is a really well laid out kayak. I like your little additions, well done, that should do everything you want.
Rtm are known for using plenty of plastic so they are pretty tough, it is a pity there aren't more of these about, I would quite enjoy modding one of those.

Phil I haven't seen one till now Phil which i thought could be a bad thing, but checked out some reviews from the aussie and nz forums and most people raved about them and were pleased with them.

I have spoken with RTM, surprisingly they are steady sellers as are the longer slimmer Abaco.
Where are they? Try and find a review from the UK.....well I have an Abaco in the garage now ready for a photo session and hopefully a paddle next week. Preview and review coming soon.
First impression is ' Where have they been hiding?

I know what you mean terry, the only ones I'd heard of over hear were the disco, mambo, and duo. The abaco does look like a good bit of kit, look forward to the review.

Must admit I like the look of the Abaco Terry, I don't understand why we just have no presence in the UK from these kayaks. The K-Largo at 2'' wider would fit perfectly within the re-mitt of a kayak angler and certainly for me. Two cracking looking kayaks which on the face of it have all the potential for what we need in a kayak.

Their MD says they sell steadilly but I have told him that they do not have the profile the would appear to deserve.
The finish on the hulls is excellent and some of the fittings like the rod tube and the pod are interesting...as is who came first.
I do not intend to compare brands just show what this has to offer.
I am hoping to have a try in a Tempo, the Scupper look-a-like. RTM have a nice range and I think we have had tunnel vision for far too long.

When i was doing a bit of research on the k-largo one of the problems seemed to be cost when compared to other makes due to high import costs. This was on the aus and nz forums so don't know what they'll be for the uk. I think the rrp on the k-largo was £899 which when you see what you get for your money i don't think is too far off the mark.

' tunnel vision ' that is a fair description of the UK market. Ocean did a very good job to the point that most of the big names were using Ocean kayaks of one sort or another so the most people entering the sport saw that ' everyone ' was using Ocean and therefor bought the same.
I have never been hooked on Ocean although I have a Big Game because there are no others on offer that match for lateral stability, more is the pity as I don't really like the BG but it suits my needs. I would love to find another kayak that does what mine does and I will swap in a flash.

Hewy,
We discussed that yesterday and the importer has held his prices for two years despite the Pound doing so badly against the Euro. The good thing is that production is in France so you do not have to wait for a container to be filled on the other side of the World to get here. I think they deserve a higher profile and who knows....before your post I had never realised RTM did dedicated angling kayaks. I think the Abaco looks good and cannot wait to get it on the water but I hope to see the -Largo and Midway too.
