This venue has returned to great form recently on the taunton end which starts at firepool lock and runs around 7 miles to maunsel lock where it is under bridgwater aa fishing rights. It has an average depth of 3-4 feet and unlike most canals is constantly flowing. Lots of different methods work on this venue with chopped worm and caster being the favoured one due to the large perch, bream and tench. Fished a match there on Sunday and the best perch went 1kg 600g and i had a bream and a perch mixed in with a few roach and rudd for 4kg 650g. The bream was around the 3kg mark and the perch 1kg. I lost a couple of bigger fish that took off like there was no tomorrow, possibly big tench or even one of the few big carp that show up from time to time. There are lots of places to launch and you will need a taunton aa day ticket. If you are ever down this way get in touch and can give you a bit more info.

Well there are barges that use the canal and people kayaking all year round terry so don't see any issues. I used to be a bailiff for taunton aa and am thinking about doing it again so i know the lads on the committee and unless they've got a match on a certain section they wouldn't object at all.

That would be good. Lads in the South West are often looking for freshwater for when the salty is unfishable.
It looks a great venue and with a friendly club it could benefit everyone. Just a shame it is 180 miles from Leicester. If things go ok put it in the 'Venues' section and if Taunton AA have a match calendar it can be put in there so people can refer to it and avoid any conflict. If it is kept up to date it would be a sign of responsible behaviour by kayak anglers.
Definitely the way to go, well done.
