Phil, just a quick query. If someone wanted to go to Ashby Ville on the spur of the moment how would they go about it? Do they need to see/contact the bailiff in advance? What access issues are they? Parking/Launching. Do we have any idea of depths or areas to tartget/avoid? Sorry to put you on the spot mate. Terry

H Terry There is no restriction, just go and fish. Keep a look out for someone waving at you because that will be John the bailiff. Go and cross his palm with £5 and you are done.
Access is very very easy as there is a slipway into the lake and car parking is where ever you find a spot around the slipway. The club anglers have a key which opens the gate so they can drive around the lake to their chosen fishing hole.
As for depth, we will find out tomorrow as oddleg, spadulike and myself are going and I will be having a tour around the lake to take some readings possibly make a rough map.
Are you thinking of going up there Terry ?

Well it looks like the readings from the ff are going to be interesting.
Terry, you would pick Tuesday, Trish's birthday so I can't take the day off to come with you-----sod it !!!
We will let you know how we get on, I think you will enjoy the lake because if the feedback I got regarding the general head of coarse fish in there, it should be good. I am going to fish this place quite a fair bit as I think it may turn out to be a good venue but as always, it take time to establish how good and what methods work best.

The result of the trip today is that Ashby Ville lake has enormous potential for the kayak angler. At the far end of the lake and before it was a lake there were several small copse's of trees which are still there and quite a few of them which in turn means that the shore anglers simply cannot reach these spots.
After paddling all around the lake and into these secluded little corners you can see the scope that is on offer. Like any venue, we need to learn the best ways and places which I intend to do by joining the club.
There were no fish caught today but I had the chance to try the fly rod from the kayak and test the new spinning rod as well as trying the new stalking rod for dead baiting so it was both enjoyable and interesting.
The depth of the lake varies at about 7' in the margins with the centre of the lake at around 21' and the rest of the area is averaging out between 10 - 16'. There were areas where the weed is very long and other areas where there is little weed so again the need for learning more about this place.
Talking to a few of the anglers, it has been fairly quiet but then again the pike are breeding although a couple were caught today in one spot on dead bait. On several occasions the ff alarm went off with large numbers of fish below but I had not taken any gear for catching them----pike was my target.
It was good to Alan and Phil again, I think we all enjoyed the trip out.
I will put up a couple of photos tomorrow to give just a flavor.

It was good to meet up and blow away the.cobwebs if nothing else...Thanks for the loan of the lures......i found my lure box in my boys bedroom...aaargh.
I had to endure the joys of Wickes and fit a chain to MIL's front door for a bit of security....I had my orderes and I knoe when to obey them.
Its a good venue and I.need.to find my self a short pellet wagler or something similar, I do have a couple of oldcarpnrods I.wonder if I could cut the butt down...mmmm

Looks very interesting Phil. I told John the baliff that you may be coming over for a session, no problem at all. Just look out for a blue or a silver 4x4 and that will him. Phil

Terry I would give the ' horseshoe ' a try first as I had strong ff readings there. Paddle up the right side of the lake, you will see an offshoot to the right, that is the horseshoe. There are trees in the middle so you can fish to the left or right. All the readings I had were to the right, near the trees.
Phil You are welcome to have a play with the Whychwood rod that I have to see if it suits your need.
Daz The fly rod is a Redington 9' 10# that I have borrowed from Simon at the Pike Shack.
If there is Little or no wind, both Alan (oddleg ) and myself think the tree areas at the top of the lake must hold a hell of a lot of fish, it is a fascinating prospect and in warmer months I recon it will come alive. I will be interested to know what you think Terry. What time are you intending to get there, I can't say for sure but I will try to call in to say hello. PM sent

Ok mate, see what I can do. Phil What are the rules for summer pike fishing if care is taken in the summer month's because of the size and depth this water should not heat up enough 🤔? Thanks
