I have looked at it in boyes but have never bought any because I was unsure of the quality with boyes being at the cheaper end of the market, so what is the quality like Daz?

as Mark has proven they catch fish and the quality is spot on for the price. must admit to being a bit of a tart when it comes to lures as i like Yo-zuri and am now fishing with mark houghton handmade lures which i find cheap for the quality and massive selection. also love fishing with soft plastics brought from AGM products. most of time it's not the lure it's how it's fished Daz

Mark hit the nail on the head when he talked about the pain being less when you lose a 2 quid lure on a snag rather than a 7 quid one.... or words to that effect.

Last year I bought Fladen braid, Vantage fly rod and various bits of tackle including a pair of lip grippers.
The fly rod is an 8/9# which I thought would be suitable for a bit of saltwater fishing. Ok it is not a super fast tip and does take a bit of false casting to make it go but so do a lot of rods 4 times the price. Once I got used to the action, I was able to throw quite a distance and with a price of £37 or there abouts it is brilliant.
The braid is 30lb and 250mt for £15, you cant go wrong. I have used it both on the sea and in the lake-----no complaints.
The lip grabbers really offer good value for money when again you compare prices of the bigger name brands, I think they were about a third of the price of the nearest product.
Rig bits and hockies just first class value for money products.
I do like the look of the baitcaster that Mark was using and may well go for one of those.
Oh, almost forgot, I also bought the Fladen jerkbait rod to use at Flamborough. Cracking bit of kit with plenty of backbone and if I only used it 3 or 4 times a year I would still say what fantastic value.
Thats it I think

Cannot speak for a lot of flaxen gear but I bought two small blue lures to customise a pair of pike swingers and had to split the lures in half. If they would hold a 2lb perch I would be very surprised. The treble hooks are held in place by the smallest amount of plastic and I could not believe it I showed a few people but did not think to take some pics only of finished mod . As daz said mark bough tons lures are spot on or matt Holmes if you can get them he is my idol lol, But if you had a good fish on a fladen lure I would not bet on you landing it.

i use some fladen gear and sell it too the plugs have got me some good fish, but and here is the but they dont last well and fail when ya sometimes need them most like hauling a 12lb polock up ,,the yo-zure lasts a lot better but is 10 times the price i have had better catch results on a yo-zure too ,,i stoped counting at 65 bass when the bloke next to me on a fladen had one ,,his answer was a yo-zure lure and said 1 line caught bass and its paid for they have some great gear for the money and if your somtimes better to pay less for your gear but the catch results speak for them selves and i dont sell fladen plugs for that reason1 i know whats better but costs a lot lot more
im looking into snowbee as a cheaper alternative to yo-zurie but a better qualty made plug than fladen the diver bit has also come off some of mine too with the fladen ones
i only speak from my own experances and also sell that way ,,dont belive me they are only a few quid try them for ya selves and see ,,but beware that the bigger fish will destroy them quick

The yo Zuri is supposed to be a really top lure.
I just could not trust landing a fish on the small plugs from fladden what price is it you place on your personal best I suppose.
I would never have known the quality of the build if I had not had to split it down the middle I was amazed to say the least

I'm not sure i've 'proven' anything as yet, just caught some fish which is what i do anyway...what i have done is found some excellent rods and reels that may or may not prove to be as good long term as what i already had and that some of the lures i've chosen work. The minnow 11's are wired through so the hooks will stay attached even if the body should fail on me. reviewing isn't a plan though although i'll give my impressions on the gear in the posts but the proof will be in the pudding - with the pictures of fish that i catch over the coming year. I'll be playing with some budget gear too, going to go for smoothies with pocket money kit for the sake of it (I know it can handle it without detriment to the fish) and may get some other bits and bobs to play with as and when. It's quite exciting to move away from what i'm familiar with though!

As said Mark many of us have a budget for gear and often buy what we can afford rather than what we would like.
Fladen do a wide range and it is nice to see someone actually fish with the gear.

the rods are shit hot ,,,they are some of the beat rods avalible and at great prices the nano is next on my list the solid carbons have proved there self time and time again my fave rod of all time is the orange carbon 10/20 its a rod that no other has got close too
im in the process of desingning a few rods with the best in the rod making bussnisses they have stole a fladen off my sheves and taken it with them the cono stayed put the rovex stayed put the diawa stayed put they took the fladen and are using it as a bench mark to see how the hell they managed it and if they can do better the people making this new rod know more about rod building than any one else but want a fladen
says it all !!!! fladen make some of the best rods
the company sent me an email a few years ago explaining how the fladen gear and badge was developing they were buying several other companys to sell tyhe other gear and were making fladen a flagship brand,,,its a long process but im starting to see that develop now WELL DONE FLADEN

I'll take note to keep on eye on that Eggy - the ones I have here don't look too substantial but seem to be tough enough. Hooks on the other hand will be replaced on the ones fitted with the red ones - a snag or two and they seem to soften a bit which is no good for trolling on braid (though casting I think i'd get away with it).
