Hello everyone. I've just stumbled upon your forum and thought I'd join and see if you could advise me on where to fish in or near Northampton.
I have an ocean kayak which I use for sea angling. I wouldn't mind giving some course fishing a go if possible. I've never seen anyone on the rivers or lakes here, so always assumed it not possible. It would be great to get more use out of my yak! ;D
Thanks

Looking around here, I see a lot of familiar names from other forums. ;D

Welcome mate.
You will find lots of us, if not all are members on Anglers Aflloat and then sites like NWKF, AKA, East Coast, The Kayak Shack, SWKA etc. etc. The reason I started 'another' fishing forum is because all the others focus mainly on sea fishing whereas here it freshwater fishing that will always be the priority. That is not to say sea angling is banned, just that the others do it better and we feel we do freshwater better.
As to where to fish. Have a look in the venues section there are a few places there and we are trying to get more on the list as we go. Unfortunately lots of clubs see us as unwelcome visitors.
One thing I would say is that if you venture onto a water do some research first. If you have BCU membership then you have navigation for virtually all navigable waters. i.e. where ever a motor boat goes you can go. Make sure you gain access lawfully, don;t trespass on land to launch. Have your EA license with you and make sure the fishery allow day tickets and have the money to buy one. If you are told you cannot fish from a kayak then do not argue, stop fishing. There is now legislation under the Theft Act relating to being on a fishery with fishing tackle without consent. You have to be careful.
Lureman/Steve, is just south of you qnd may be able to help. It is always worth approaching local clubs to see how they feel about kayaks and explain the code we aim to encourage kayak anglers to fish by.
Look out for free stretches like the embankment in peterborough you should be ok there.
Many of us have fished The Fens, as yet I have not heard of any problems but be careful and polite if challenged.
Let us know how you get on and keep an eye open for meets.

Terry thank you very much for your sound advice. I will take a look at the venues section and keep an eye out for meets. I have the BCU membership, but no EA licence. I will look into getting one. Not course fished for 30+ years, so this is big learning curve for me.
Thanks again.

You're welcome Vini. The site is fairly new but if we all work at it we can get a network of fisheries together and have some great fishing. You like most of us are so far from the sea that a trip can be expensive and then easily ruined when wind and surf are not as forecast.

You like most of us are so far from the sea that a trip can be expensive and then easily ruined when wind and surf are not as forecast. Terry The distance to the coast and then getting the forecasts and stuff right can be an issue. Even the best websites don't always get it right. I'm from Merseyside and spent my youth on and around the water, so it can be quite frustrating. If it wasn't for my job, we would be living near to the coast. Anyway, I would like to give some lure fishing for Pike a go. Just need to get out and ask about. I have located places where kayaks are for hire, but no mention about fishing or even taking your own kayak along. I will enquire though. Well, I think you all have a great thing going on here. I hope kayak fishing inland waters can take off here in the UK. To get more use out of my yak would be great......Justifies all the money I've spent! ;D Cheers Terry and thanks for the welcome Daz.
