Coarse fishing mainly. We have a stretch of the Trent we can fish on a season ticket. Not sure if you know Rudyard near Leek, we can go there.
Be careful where you go because you can end up being done under the theft act if you are on water un licensed with fishing gear.
With either British Canoe Union (BCU) or a navigation permit from the Angling Trust AND permission from the holder of fishing rights you can fish on canals, but there are rules to abide there.
We are slowly getting more waters, Shortly we will be able to fish Ravensthorpe and later Pitsford. A trout water in Earith has just let us on.
There is also LLangorse in Wales.

Holy crap, fish theft? Even if you haven't got any fish from the water with you? The water im thinking of is a season ticket that im a member of. I suppose it makes sense to ask before setting off! I'm planning on piking myself. Thanks for the heads up!

Yup you just have to have fishing tackle.
A lot of us do piking. Have a look through the forum and you will see.
If you are in a 'pump up' be very very careful, large trebles can be unsympathetic as you obviously know. Nearky everyone here I believe uses plastic kayaks.

Wow I didn't know that. I suppose its good if it protects our fish stocks. I ended up getting an inflatable because I don't really have the room for a plastic. I was planning on mixing it up a bit, I fly fish for pike as well as lure fishing and bait fishing. I did some deflation drills in the sea just in case an emergency happens and I'm quite confident if the worst happens (I smacked myself in the teeth with my oar the first time I deliberately capsized!)

It's a good idea to be aware of the danger and know how you and you craft will react when things go wrong. You will find is that some waters will not let you on, Anglian for instance are only going to allow plastic due to the problems of how inflatables handle winds. I bet if you get into fisjing afloat you will end up investing in a purpose made angling kayak. you soon begin to see the difference See how you get on. Perhaps if you keep you eye on the threads you will see when a couple of us are going out you can join us and have a try in one of ours. Terry

Hi All,
Im new to Kayak Fishing and based in Northampton. I am looking at buying a kayak at present so if anyone knows of a good second hand one, id be interested to know.
Any recommendations on a first Kayak?
Pitsford is local to me and I often fly fish it for the trout. there are a lot of big Pike and Perch there as well!

Dane I am still working on getting them to let us fish for the perch. The problem is that perch tactics are perfect for trout. Mind you fly fishing on a trout ticket using a suitable perch fly could be fun then you would not be restricted to a minimum fly size like on a predator ticket. Daz and I will be over to Pitsford with pike flies at the start of the season I reckon. As for your first kayak what size are you and what are you looking to be doing? Fly, lure, bait? Sea, lake, river? How much gear are you looking to be carrying? Terry

Welcome aboard boys, I am also rather keen on the fly for pike as my prefered method.
There are other options to inflatable kayaks for those who have space issues such as the Tequilla sectional kayak, I have one kicking around somewhere if you require more info.

Hi Terry,
I believe you can fish for perch with drop shotting already. Some guys were doing that the other weekend.
Dane.
