I guess there is no reason why not mate especially if you are sticking to freshwater. Load carrying would be great. Rigging might be a challenge as you would have to fix things to the side rather than flat surfaces. I know some of the people on Song of The Paddle do fish from their canoes.
Let us know how you get on and show how you rig it.

My first boat of any kind was a 3 seater canadian canoe. It was great to paddle and fish with my mate. The stability wasn't brilliant and with 2 on so you had to be careful of any sudden movements. They can also be awkward in the wind as they have more resistance than a yak. The trouble was I put a bracket and a small outboard on it.
I then got lazy and never paddled it again. This lead to me getting rid and getting a bigger boat.
I still have the bigger boat but have now got a yak as well. Hardly used the boat since. Gone full circle in a way.
I still had some of my best days out fishing on the Canadian and can recommend them. In a way I wish I had kept it. Don't motorise it though!

I find them a bit twitchy compared to a sit on top and especially do not like being in one with someone else, but I do keep fancying one. Apart from that my knees arent good enough to spend much time in one.

It will save you kneeling all the time on the Tandem Al. Have you got the outboard bracket as well. Phil

I picked it up from Newark today on the way back i dropped in at the Lincoln pub the Pye wipe,s car park which is along the river Witham and paddled to and around the Brayford pool. The Old town canoe is only 12ft so short for its kind.I found it alittle tippy at first but then fine.To get the best out a candian canoe its best to paddle on your knees and on edge. But for fishing sit on the seat enabling me to stretch and be in easy reach of rods bait etc well thats the theory any way.On the fishing side i need all the help i can get.Oh Phill the outbord bracket will be sorted out somehow.

Well Phil found 2 bits of wood 2 bolts made a motor mount and went to tetney .The little old town went well with the electrick motor mounted on the side battery at the front.I passed a few bank fisherman wasnt sure if they were slightly envious or to expect half eaten dead bait to be throne at me for going through thier swim.il try to get some pics sorted.

How stable was it Alan and did it perform with the outboard. I could have had a run over to Tetney if I had known.

Hi with the weather ok here today i had a go fishing with a pole in the candian canoe .I found that fishing ,hand to line, seemed to work best and with the extra room and able to keep dry made it all that much better.

All boats have their place when used appropriately. I can see a canoe being great on freshwater but unless sufficiently proficient I would not recommend saltwater unless very calm. Terry

Terry i agree terry, with the weather weave had this winter i wouldn't go out in those conditions, even when you've been in & around boats of all kind for all your life, like myself.
