Hello everyone, I'm sure a lot of you will already know me from other sites, for those that don't I live in Hertfordshire and enjoy fishing from the yak, my biggest course fish sorry far being a 17lb Pike caught on a float trolled roach. I also like to fly tie for the Pike and salt water species.
I have been kayaking a while and fishing since I was 3 so I hope I can bring something to the table

Hi onerun, local emm,I would say most fishable spots are within an hour of Welwyn were I live There are some spots locally that I think could be fishable but I have not given them ago yet We of course have the un tapped resource of the canal network.
Are you local to me?
Michael

Hi Michael, I'm about 15 mins down the by-pass in Hertford. There are defiantly some under fished areas local to us that would suit kayak/mobile style fishing. I'm going to have a crack at an old haunt on Saturday after a 20ye gap. Looking forward to it.

There are some stretches in Hertford that look promising, it used to be run by London angling But I thought they went pear shaped? If you don't have a yak yet you are welcome to try one Of mine,I have 3 different models to choose from :-)

I'm not sure about the state of LAA these days but I know the stretch you are on about. Thanks for the offer but I have a new yak I have been itching to launch and I will finally get it wet this weekend. Gary

Thanks Terry, looking forward to being a part of the site, I'm more fresh than salt in a Yak :-)
Gary I would be interested in your launch site, I used to put in at Hartham until the put the white water in just after the kayak club.

Michael,
I will post the launch site next time I get the chance to go there and take some good photos. Its not normally my way as I have been Pike fishing too long to give away venues but I have had lots of help from this forum so its only fair to give back.
I can't vouch for the fishing as I haven't fished it for over 20yrs until I launched there last weekend (caught nothing on 2 short sessions in flood conditions). it used to hold plenty of good fish of all species.

I can understand putting the launch site on the open forum, if you are in any doubt dont. we can always meet up for a session.

Gary, as Michael says .... you will not be criticised for only sharing sensitive locations with those you trust. This is an open site and we get many visitors every day. Some locations need to be protected so that that are not spoiled. Terry

Gents, you are too kind !.
Not a problem though, It's a launch location for others to try and maybe pooling the info may show something as the river does not see that much pressure. I haven't fished the area since I learned to drive so I'm not loosing a hotspot. Anyone reading this thread would be able to pin down the venue from google maps.
I've been Piking since I was a kid and always followed the idea that you never talk about venues, no matter how good they are. This approach has followed into all my predator fishing, even cats !. Yea I am the bank angler that is hunched in a suit telling you I have caught nothing all day even though you can see a wet sling and fish slime on the unhooking mat. I'm that guy !.
The venue threads helped me last weekend and it is important to list areas that we can launch and park comfortably. It will get more interest in kayaking as local places can be tried. A huge list of Norfolk launch sites will have no appeal for a Kent based angler and that that guy may never try kayaking. Larger numbers could bring more venues being opened to us, we live in the real world and all clubs want a good return each year. Terry and Greygoose have negotiated access to new areas. CFPAS never used to allow boat fishing but they have agreed to kayaks, the club is likely to see more books sold this year due to that, other clubs may follow. Bank anglers seem to hate (well I do !) open boats racing through their swim with 3-4 rods out trolling as you have no time to rescue your kit before it's swept up the river followed by the traditional tirade of abuse. In a kayak you travel slower, have more time to bring your rigs in and cause less disturbance. The Ely rowers are annoying because they go so close to the bank and take your line but I have never felt they ruin the swim for any amount of time as they silently glide past once they are gone you forget about them, 4 stroke petrol is a different story.
For the new season I have already planned to join a couple of clubs that haven't seen my cash for years. This is due to their policy on fishing from boats. I will make a point that I am fishing from a kayak when I join.

Gary, That is exactly the thoughts that led me to start this forum. It is only by individuals working with clubs that they know that these waters are pening up. Slowly the word will spread and our reputation for responsible angling will spread and we will gain more access and our sport will grow. Terry
