I like this spot, its easy If you google Riverside road you will see a large car park, at the bottom of the car park is a concrete slip with very easy access to the river. I have paddled it a few times out of season and seen carp to well over 20lb (Hertford Marina) and some nice Pike & Chub to, Im not sure if the river is controlled by an angling club but there are many tributes and sidings that cannot be fished from the bank Parking is (was?) free on a Sunday, if you cant get under the barrier just go down by the rowing club, unload and then park the car www.google.co.uk/maps/place/Riverside+Rd/@52.3303631,-0.1752542,241m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m2!3m1!1s0x4877dd3b496153eb:0x47bd5a602187d8f7

Looks like it is controlled by this club but they have no web site. Does anyone know the club?

I would think its a bit like the Broads Terry, there is a club controlling some parts of the bank but its open access and I have seen plenty fishing form there moored boats.

If you follow the riverside road down towards St Ives ,this part is "Hartford" I believe, there is an old stony slipway, free parking. A friend launches his boat there and fishes towards St Ives just carries a £5 but never had anyone him for it, catfish there now 40lb plus ! Upriver from where you launched the London Angling club has quite a bit (,unfriendly to kayaks )but very few anglers on the banks.Other side of St Ives is a village called Needingworth ,through there is Holywell, lovely little pub -the oldest in England -easy launch and very nice.Wide and open towards Earith, other way banks tree lined ,deep and narrow towards StIves, only ever see EA's fishing next to a little camp there, just a couple of young lads. This bit floods to half a mile wide in winter and is great for paddle exploring at any time. The banks tend to go from one club to another ,but the only bit I have seen anglers or bailiffs is on the Overcote section opposite the pub.

Sounds like a plan. I have never fished it but seen plenty of fish, it would be a real exploration of the back waters

Sounds like a kip in the car to make it doable but hey ho. By the way, what is that kayak your friend is paddling, looks nice in two tone.
