No I haven't spelt it wrong, its just a mad idea I have..
How about tying a fly on in place of the drop shot hook, do you think it would work?

Absolutely , have heard of folks using a fly with a "hair" that they just put a couple of swan shots on,then drifted and sort of jigged, now we can get drop shot weights, fish don,t care what we do ,just if it looks like food !

Jerkbaitmania are starting to do drop shot flies. Have a look there for ideas.

I have tried this with Pike flies on the Dee
It does work but I cast a little downstream , about 10 yards and drift down whilst jigging - so not really drop shotting.
I did get snagged up a lot though.

Perhaps adding a little tungsten to the fly itself would work rather than adding swan shot, not drop shotting in the true sense of the word but does it matter. I may well be worth having a weed guard made from nylon to help it from getting snagged if drifting.

I was going to say that Phil but you beat me to it !, a weedless hook would help.

About 5 years ago Steve (lureman) let me in on his secret to big Perch and I must say it was proven on a day we spent on the Thames. Very simple, Texas rigged lure on specialist hook, tied using a perfection loop on 30lb Seaguar, tungsten cone (from the States) and a rubber float stop, this is fished sink and draw very slowly under structure. Its very very effective. If you want to see it in action look up fishwithAndy on you tube, he's the guy taking the picture in my avatar. www.youtube.com/watch?v=pdBxNC5oDoo
