Hi,
New to the board and yet to get a Kayak! Been looking for some time now and undecided what to get. I intend to fish from whatever I get but also need it to be big enough to take another as well.... I have been recommended the Ocean kayak malibu 2 xl so that is currently what I'm looking for. Based on the south coast near to Christchurch so areas will be lower river Stour, Christchurch harbour and probably Christchurch bay and Solent. All of my fishing nowadays is lure based so want to be targeting predatory species in all those hard to get to spots..... ;-)
Darren.

The Fatyak Mahee is an option. There is a review on here. Made in Somerset. Nearly forgot "Welcome Dazza". Terry

Welcome aboard Dazza. It is worth trying a Malibu before you buy which applies to all kayaks as it may not be as nimble when on your own. A good kayak but you really need to consider how often you will use it alone.

Welcome Dazza...
Defo choose the XL over the normal Malibu 2.
Fatyak is good value however I've never actually seen one in the flesh.
Terry is your man for that one.

As the lads say make sure you are going to use it mainly as a double! Doubles are great two up but when you start paddling solo all sorts of problems occur. People tell you they love paddling one solo but no one likes to admit they have brought a 'turkey'. I know, I started with one but soon bought a solo to go with it. You may well find that you would get on better with a pair of Fatyak Kaafus or Galaxy Cruz's. They are both great freshwater boats and good for lure angling. They are stable and turn on a sixpence. The best bit is you would get a pair of either for a similar price to a double. Another positive is that you can fish separately instead of having treble hooks whipping past your ear as your buddy casts his lures. Think about it Dazza and try and have a paddle in a double on your own, in the wind if you can. Don't expect to go straight ahead though. They are made and designed for two solo is a compromise. If you are thinking of taking the missus out for a fun paddle you may well find that she would enjoy doing her own thing as well, mine does. Terry

Hi if your sure you want a tandem you could try a Perception gemini .I use mine alot solo ,i like the extra space. But 2 singles would almost certainly be a better option as said above 2 people fishing on a tandem could be dangerous.cheers Al

Thanks Guys, Now have a whole lot more to consider........! Hadn't really thought about paddling as a single being any different... realistically it's probably going to be a starter yak and i would end up with a single as well if I got the bug. How does the galaxy cruz or fatyak mahee compare to the malibu? They seem very good value compared to the Ocean yaks. The Galaxy Cruz tandem is advertised as 399.00 inclusive of seats, oars etc and also including a trolley! Should I bight the bullet and go for the Galaxy??? or find a way to try before I buy? hmmmm..... Darren.

Give Graeme at Galaxy a ring he is a very nice guy always worth asking for advice. He may be able to tell you if someone near you has one you could take a look at.
