I had a visit to Excel boats to collect my new boat and whilst there they showed me some of the small SIBs they carried in stock. Now when I say small, I mean small from 1.6mt in length, the question is does that size boat have any place in angling. I gave this some thought before putting this post on here and on reflection, I think perhaps they do, after all, they use float tubes a great deal in Scandinavia and of course a number of UK waters so why would a little SIB not be suited. Well here are my thoughts, no drysuit and flippers, stay dry and warm, a small electric outboard would do the job very well and still have the ability to get into some of those weedy/reed covered areas that hold some nice fish. The other aspect is the boat doesn't cost the earth either. They do carry a fair stock as well Just to give you an idea of cost should these small Excel SIBs fit in with your thoughts :- SD 160 £429 SD 180 £439 SD 200 £479 SD 230 £509 SD 260 £589 Because they are small, do not think for a moment that they are cheap construction because they are made to the same spec as their bigger brothers. Even though I have just bought a 330 model, if I had the spare cash, I could easily find good use for a tiny tub myself and small enough to leave in the car with an electric outboard for those couple of hour sessions we all can find time for. Food for thought Phil

Just the job for carpers & catfish anglers taking baits and groundbait out, much cheaper than a baitboat as well. Phil

I'm going to get an inflatable next year and 10hp. I have an orkney spinner but it's so slow. I want something just to get me to some hard to reach swims quickly. I don't plan to fish from it just to access hard to reach areas , lot quicker than my spinner and easier to launch.

Okay, well when the time comes to look at a SIB, feel free to contact me and we will see if I can give you a demo in mine, I am in North Lincs, Nr the Humber Bridge or a trip up to Excel in the Midlands may be of benefit to you. There are a great number of SIBs out there which do not all have the same warranty that Excel do even some of the biggest names so it is worth doing a little research before buying.
