This trout fishery is situated in North Lincolnshire which for some time has allowed kayak fly fishing. I had a chat with them today as they have a month near Christmas when you are allowed to lure fish the venue and I wanted to find out what the dates are for this year. To my surprise, they advised me that it is open for lure fishing now and may be extended for the winter and beyond. This venue has some very large perch along with pike so drop shotting, lures and of course fly fishing are on the menu. I will be going either Friday or next week for a chat to clarify the situation and as a very good friend is running the place for the most part, I think we will have no problems as he is interested in getting a kayak. Esoxuk, phil and I are going to arrange a midweek trip and hire some of the boats for a perch session soon so if you are interested in coming along, let me know. Here are the details of Toft Newton-------------the concrete bowl. www.toftnewton.com/Phil

To be very honest Terry, I don't know but these are things I want to chat to Andy about when I go over. There could be some restriction on treble hooks reading some past data so there are a few things to sort. I will of course post my findings along with the latest prices but as far as I know, it will be £5 to launch the kayak, £10 for 5 hours fishing or £14 for the day but it does need to be clarified for predator fishing which may be slightly different from the trout rules.

I have just had a further chat with Andy Hudson of Toft Newton fishery regarding the do's and don'ts of the fishery.
There is no size limit for lures and treble hooks are permitted. NO worm baits but dead bait will be permitted
Kayak launch will be at a cost of £5.00 plus a days fishing at £14
Boat hire is £5.00 and you can take your own electric outboard or hire a boat with a petrol outboard for £12.00. Please note you cannot take your own petrol outboard motor.
It is suggested that a couple of days notice is needed for boat hire in the week, more if on a weekend. You must phone before and state you are perch / pike fishing and if Andy is on duty say that Phil Roberts passed on the details so that he knows how well this channel of forum interest is creating visitors.
The fishery is a trout fishery and we must NOT try to catch trout with lures because it will upset the regular visitors to the fishery, should you want to fish for trout, then take your fly rod. You can of course fish for the pike using the fly rod but it is unlikely to attract trout with the size of flies used.
It is important to observe the rules regarding how we fish because if it is seen that we are picking up trout, we will upset both local fly fishermen and the management so common sense must prevail. Andy is aware that the odd trout may be caught on small lures/drop shot methods but it should be more by accident rather than intention.
It is worth saying that all predator fishing should be done afloat and NOT from the bank including any dead baiting.
I have suggested to Andy that he should join this forum so he can also feed us any information regarding Toft and as he is going for a kayak early next year for the bass on the east coast, we will help and advise him in the process.
Please feel free to phone the fishery for any further information on 01673 878 453. In Andy's absence, the manager of the fishery is Jason Foster.
For any of you wanting to improve your fly casting skills or to have a guide on Toft, Andy is your man and to see this man in action with a fly rod is something to behold, I am sure that I will be getting him to kick my rear as he has in the past when trying to increase casting distance. I recall fly fishing with Andy at a club water near where we live and could not believe the distance he was able to cast a fly, quite amazing. Andy is a keen pike fly angler having caught a huge number of pike over the years, not unlike our own deerphil, so again he will be able to advise in this area.
Whilst toft is not a pretty lake, it is a concrete bowl containing a large head of perch and pike. If we do a good job when fishing there, we will have a place to fish for years to come and that has to be a good move.

In that case Terry, I can't be there, sorting a suite tomorrow and Sunday I am helping Alan with his SIB. Most days next week I am flexible. I think talking to Andy and Phil Heaton, drop shotting is going to be brilliant there.

Cheers Kell.
My biggest problem when I fished it was getting through the trout.
They seemed to be on a fry bashing spree and hit anything that moved.
I fished near the pump house, should I have tried elsewhere?
