I'm new to kayak fishing as you know guys and I would love your opinion on fishfinders. I've got a budget of around £150.

There is a large range out there at that price.
To be honest so long as you stick to the main brands you will be OK. Garmin, Lowrance and Hummingbird spring to mind.
There are a few guys here with FF's in that range who will hopefully advise you Lee.
Make sure you keep the terminals well covered with silicone grease or similar to prevent the risk of corrosion. ;0

Thanks terry, I've been looking at the pirahnamax series, they've got good reviews and seem well priced. (They've all got good reviews though) Is colour an advantage or just a gimmick? Also power seems a bit of an issue??? What I don't want is to have to carry a small battery pack around with me and on the sites it doesn't really say if they take aa's or whatever?

Most run from a battery similar to those fitted in burglar alarms, some do run on AA's. Batteries are not dear and are rechargeable and last well. Something like this Aim for a 7amp. When you set up the battery can easily be stored inside the hull out of the way. Search around for the best price. Colour is nice but generally displays the same as grey scale of the same model. A lot of people start with the Piranha range and move on later. If you look around though there are many of the brands that do colour for well under your budget. Terry

Whilst I have a Hummingbird, if I were to buy a new one it would be a Garmin for the simple reason that they have a far better mounting system and really good plugs.
