Hi chaps .. could you please advise on straps and strapping technique for a moken 10, can I strap straight over the kayak or through the side handles, also how much pressure to exert and width of straps ( for spreading the load under tension)
Your comments and advice is much appreciated, Oh and forward or backwards ?!
Regards
Stewart

Most guys have the kayak facing forward, upside down so the flat top is on the roof bars. You can have it either way and to be honest it depends how you load it on the roof. Heavier kayaks, it is easier to slide the kayak up the roof of the car by using a rubber backed door matt and onto the roof rails. To make this simple, fit RUK or Thule slider kayak holders to your roof bars.
Don't use ratchet straps as you can apply so much pressure that you can damage the hull and we have known of one chap who did this and seriously damaged the scuppers causing the kayak to leak. By kayak straps from any of the dealers and apply enough pressure to hold the kayak in place, that is all.

Stewart,
If you are using roof bars the pass the cam strap over the top of the kayak, under the bar on the far side and then back over the top to the near bar and pass it under. So effectively you have a double strap over the kayak.
