Lads, My negations with Anglian Water's Fisheries Manager over kayak access are still on going but following talks with a Fly Casting Instructor who has delivered courses there I will be looking to expand the negations to include access for trout anglers which may add an extra revenue stream for Anglian and also increase the frequency of access. As part of this I would like to be able to offer a basic Demo Day at the Rutland Water Fishing Lodge. Not as any sort of training but purely to show a range of kayaks that the anglers could look at and convince themselves of the viability of fly fishing from a kayak. As part of the offer to Rutland I would hope to be able to work out a deal on a few hours fishing afterwards. Anglian are keen to work out a strategy for kayak fishing on Rutland and I am making really good progress. If all goes well this strategy would be rolled out across ALL Anglian Water Reservoirs including a couple in Essex area that may appeal to a few here. There is still a way to go but if, as the fly instructor says, there is interest from fly anglers then a demo day would work in our favour. So......would any of you be prepared to bring your kayaks over to Rutland and help me out? Cheers Terry

I would be willing to come along Terry as long as I am available on the day. Maybe I could travel with others from my area to keep the costs down. I can transport at least 3 kayaks? The fishing would be a nice bonus too.

Good work Terry. I can see what the object of the excersise is and how it could benefit us kayaks in the long term. Just let me know as soon as you can on dates and I'll help out if I'm free.

At the moment I have only been discussing predator access which would be fly only up to 1st Oct then lures and deads.

I would help but don't think my old dorado is a great fly fishing platform ,probably scare a few of them off ! open snag free kayaks where you can spool onto your lap easier are a better option ( would have a cuda as a second boat if I could ! )

I'm new here and I haven't fished from a kayak since my early 20's (a long time ago) in South Africa. I don't know if this is still something you're planning, Izzetafox, but... I don't live far away from Rutland, if it helps I'll bring my Kayak too. I would love to fish for trout or predators on Anglian Water reservoirs, I have 3 of them within 30 minutes from my house! Just let me know if I can help.

Hi Karl,
Struggling to get through on the phone and no reply to emails. Very frustrating really but I shall keeping mate. Jon seems to be very busy, at least that is what I am hoping.
I have made the request on the broadest levels so as it include predator and trout fishing.
Certain points have been agreed. Registration at the lodge, launch at Whitwell Creek. Rangers have overall decision on suitability of conditions to launch. I have suggested that all kayakers must be in possession of a dry suit or other suitable safety gear so as to show the angler is not an Ebay buyer yesterday and a complete novice. Ranger will dictate if it should be worn having regard for prevailing weather. Possible geographic restrictions. i.e. avoidance of South Arm due to sailing activity.
More points are still under discussion.
I will post when I have more definite info.
Terry
