Hi just found the site via a link from The Lure anglers society, looks great being dedicated to coarse fishing, which is where most if my fishing will be focused on. Just in the process of getting my first kayak so beware daft questions LOL. Cheers Graham

Hi, I live near Torksey and fished alot of local waters, if I can help you please contact me via this site. Please make sure that you are fully licenced as British Waterways are watching for unlicenced boat users, Last winter Torksey basin recieved alot of attention from boat anglers illegally fishing the basin. Torksey boat club employed a private security company last winter, also the basin is under 24 hour video survalance. The Witham downstream of Lincoln onto Bardney is controlled by Scunthorpe Picses club. I am a member and have asked if they allow boat fishing but have received no answer as yet. A lot of smaller rivers have no navigational rights so just be careful where you go.

Welcome Graham.
The whole idea behind starting the site was to give a focal point for those of us who are mainly on freshwater....I tend to feel like the kid who plays rugby union in a Lancashire school dedicated to League on some of the forums.
Our sport is growing with new starters joining all the time and we want to help them as best we can. Having said that the 'big' forums like Anglers Afloat and North Wales Kayak fishing are still superb sites to go for the basic skills, safety and rigging. They are the experts and have been guiding us for 5-6 years. Don't ignore these sites.

Hi speedtriple I will be in touch thanks for the kind offer. As far as licences are concerned I believe the British canoe union is the way to go? I thought that torksey basin was a no fishing area unless you had a boat there?

Torksey basin is available to fish if you have a mooring, you can only fish from a boat that is moored. Unfortunatly other boat anglers do not play by the rules. I am a BCU member which gives rights to use your boat on inland navigable waterways. Buy yourself a couple of short rods, less than 6 feet, I have a couple of 5 foot one peice light lure rods, you can try one of these if you like. Try Morton boats at Swinderby for your kayak, nice folk to deal with.

I stand to be corrected but i dont believe you need a BCU license to paddle every single waterway in the country as i dont think it covers the middle level system which is navigable

It looks like i stand corected Terry, does the BCU license run for 12 months from point of joing or is it similar to the rod license system as i cant seem to find that info. As for rods you really need a rod you can reach around the bow with on the sea i use 7ft rods and these are ideal for my trident 13 i have just bought a pair of 10ft rods for bait fishing for pike on the yak which i can also use on the drains, tho i already have 3 fantastic pike rods i cant fault but 2 long for yakking plus of course shorter lure rods.

BCU runs 12 months from when you join. It is a bit pricey, but Kings Lynn AA wanted me to have it before I paddled and fished their stretch of the Great Ouse and basically being a good boy I did as they asked. After forking out at least I can wave my membership under the nose of anyone who asks to see it. I got the family membership.

Thats what made me ask as would be a waste if only a couple of months but as its a year its not so bad.

Spot on with membership 12 calendar months. Rods 7ft minimum for me often i sit moored to bank and sit side saddle so i play fish broadside on to yak.
