If you are thinking about fishing with a guide....DO IT ! I did and loved every minute.
Right folks let me give a bit of detail about my two days on Weirwood with Rikki Cooper.
I had met Rikki at a demo day at Dave Mutton ‘s shop in Coventry where I had taken my Hobie Pro Angler for people to try.
Rikki had just come from Rutland Water where he and his guest had both had double figure Zander in the boat at the same time.!
I befriended Rikki on Facebook and started to see what a prolific angler he was and that as a qualified coach and professional angling guide his guests were catching some spectacular fish.
Rikki’s own track record is pretty impressive too with numerous double figure zander, big pike, perch , carp, tench and catfish and , what I believe is still the largest sturgeon at 121lbs caught in English freshwater. His Predator Pro guiding business seemed to be very successful.
So when Rikki invited me down to Weirwood for a couple of days fishing from his boat I jumped at the chance..
Some kayak anglers will wonder why I wanted to fish from a boat. The great thing is that skills and techniques from boat and kayak are interchangeable and having access to such a skilled guide was a fantastic experience.
At this point I must say that Rikki is not the only guide available if any of you want to enhance your kayak fishing skills then time spent with any established guide will benefit you.
Having said that the atmosphere on a boat with Rikki was one of the best fishing experiences I have had in year.
PISS TAKE ALERT !! Beware if you lose a Personal Best fish through being scared of dropping your E-Cig in the water Rikki WILL take the piss…again and again you WILL be punished.
The photo’s show the potential of Weirwood as a fishery and the two days we had there Rikki says were bad days possibly down to the sudden high temperatures, pressure change and erratic wind that affected our drift continually.
Rikki offers guided trips on Weirwood, Bewl, Rutland and Grafham to name but a few. In short if you want a chance to enhance your skills book a trip with a good guide, as Rikki is the only guide I have been with he is the only one I can personally recommend. ☺
Best news? I am in talks over kayak access
I cannot close with out thanking Rikki, Sarah and Kieran for making my stay with them so entertaining. Oh and Rob of course but the stories he told are not suitable for publishing. ☺
