Hi All . I have just bought a second hand MOKEN 10 LITE kayak for fishing small rivers and the Severn and Avon . I am 18 stone and a complete novice .

If you have the Kingfisher seat to go on this kayak, be careful as you are a little heavy for the kayak and that seat can unbalance you. Take a few trips without the fishing gear to get both confidence and comfort while on the water. Don't fight the kayak, it knows what to do, just go with it as balance on a small kayak is tricky at first, well actually, it is not tricky, it is just you not having the confidence at the start.
To be totally honest, while the Moken is a lovely little kayak, you would have been better off with one a bit bigger even the standard Moken 10 which is wider but carries much more weight and is VERY VERY stable.
Just take your time and enjoy
Phil

Welcome to the forum mate. We all had to start somewhere and know what it's like so ask away if you need advice. Terry

Welcome to the forum. There are plenty of knowledgeable people on here and people don't mind answering your questions, as the others have said we all have to start somewhere Terry is probably one of the leaders in trying to get kayak anglers excepted on inland waterways.

Good luck enjoy it ;it can become addictive It's a good idea to know how to self rescue if you were to capsize. If your a decent swimmer it's quite easy and hopefully you won't need to do it for real . Happy paddling Pieman
