Evening and hi to all!!
I've been directed this way from the AA forum (not alcoholics anonymous, just to clear that up! ) i'm looking at switching from sea to inland for a few reasons, the main one being a hope i can get out more!
I'm going to paste a copy of my post from AA to save me writing it out again, hopefully I'm looking at getting access to the great ouse (kings lynn/downham, cutt off drain, ten mile bank would be awesome too but i think fishing rights exist for both sides of the bank so god knows what happens if you want to float down the middle! any info and known venues in my area would be greatly recieved!!
"For many reasons i'm not going to go into (we'd be here forever and end up way off topic!) I'm wanting to switch to fresh water yak fishing but i'm getting more and more concerned the more i read up on things and I'm hoping someone could help simplify things for me, point me in the right direction and most importantly, help me make sure I stay on the right side of the rule book.
I'm fully aware I require navigation permits, rod licence and fishing pass/season ticket from whoever may hold the fishing rights to a particular waterway. My main issue is finding waterways near me that allow kayak fishing!!
I've already sent an e-mail to kings lynn angling asociation to find out if any of their waterways are kayak friendly. As yet I haven't recieved a reply but it's only been a couple of days, also they advertise one stretch of water as boat fishable so I don't see a reason why I wouldn't be accepted?? Are there any other waterways, rivers, canals or lakes in and around kings lynn, swaffham, downham market that allow kayak fishing??
Another thing that is currently starting to concern me is all the rules and byelaws, I've been reading for days and i'm still no closer to understanding what I can and can't do where?? It's like a "red tape-wild goose chase" one publication leads to another and another and at the end everythings as clear as mud! To be honest since researching began last friday i'm starting to wonder whether it's worth all this effort and cost, it's certainly not made easy. Can anyone help clarify the basics for me? Is there a nice site/thread i can visit that you think may help? (I understand local byelaws will be in place and these will be individual to each waterway)
Thanks for any help in advance!!"
At the moment i'm just in the research stages making sure i'm gen'd up before i go spending a good deal of money on permits. Again thanks for any help!
