Nothing to do with kayaking but a while back I decided to build a bait boat aimed at pike fishing. I know it's cheating a bit but it was more just something to tinker with and now I can get a bait right in the undergrowth. I had most of the bits sitting around at home and in my dads garage. It is quite crude and scruffy but it's more of a prototype and to see if I could actually do it. It'll be gradually refined and I may try and make a catamaran style fibreglass or vacuum formed hull. The idea is I'll have a winch servo which pulls some wire which tips the gutter and out drops a nice dead bait. Got a dead line of the end of Feb to get it finished for a night session at a carp syndicate where I'm the only predator member . Had a few doubles last time I was there and can't wait to get there again.

Cheers guys. This is it now. On my 1st proper trial I found the bass wood I used for the outrigger wasn't buoyant enough so made a new one with a rod tube. Also managed to suck up a stone and now down to one and a bit propeller blades. Still works just a little noisy, got a new one ordered. Had a little go this evening and works really well. Looks a bit better with a bit of paint and found some glow in the dark paint for the hopper. Got a neat idea for the final look but I'll reveal that when it's done if it works out ok. Off to do a over nighter this weekend at a lake with some decent potential so will thoroughly test it and hopefully have some pictures to show.

Frosty,
Don't forget Weirwood Reservoir mate. It is a carp syndicate water.
We are allowed on there with the yaks. They only allow pike until the end of April though restarts October 1st. Perch fishing allowed weekdays through Summer.
There are some big old girls in there, biggest this Winter 27 1/2.

Yes I had a walk round weirwood the other month, well I say round it? I walked and walked and walk some more and never got no where near half way round lol. But what a lovely water such nice scenery.yes must paddle it Soon. Been trying to find out as much info as I can about the water,it seems asking other pike anglers for info is just a big no no, I thought carp boys were secretive but pikers are much more secretive for giving away info,so I only have the down side info and haven't heard anything positive until now.but as said it's a lovely water and think it would still be a pleasure to blank on.

Talk to Brendan the guy that runs it or Rikki Cooper he does a lot of guiding on there for perch and pike. People pay #150 a day for it so the results must justify it. Andy Lush is also a regular.
Five of us are down for a couple of days soon I will let you know how we get on.
Last time I was there I did a couple of hours trolling and had a 12, but mainly targeted the perch that have been caught to over 5lb.
Brendan charges £20 per 24 hours and lets us camp for free at the side of the lake.
