Hi, I've been fishing since young, and moved to Oxford a few years ago. I've fished from my little motor boat, my inflatable canoe and my sit in kayaks on the Thames, and have decided to join the ranks of the sit-on-tops: its got to be easier than lugging my outboard about or trying to balance a SINK while landing a fish!
Just one question for starters: as I havent got a SOT yet, would you recomend the Kaafu. I dont get much chance to get out, so only need something quick to deploy and light to carry. My kids could also paddle it, since they manage quite well with the others. Is is large enough to handle a feisty Thames pike?
Your website looks great, and I wish you all the best.

Welcome to the site. We are growing steadily and have a member arriving who fishes the Thames and Kennet and Avon Canal in the reading area ( jagdverband44 ). On the point of the kayak, it all depends on what you are actually intending to do. If you are not carrying loads of gear then the Kaafu might fit the bill. It is a ten footer and easy to handle both on and off the water. It is surprising just how nimble it is. Have a look here. coarsekayakfishing.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=reviews&action=display&thread=196It would be great for the kids too, my wife loves it. It can easily be modified to make a better angling kayak. and too gain dry storage in the hull. It is very easy to car top due to the moulded in handles. They are British made down in Devon. They are very stable as are most SOT's. Just a small ask.....if you do decide to order one from Fatyaks ( or H2O kayaks) after being tempted by our review....give us a mention when you place the order. Once again welcome as a paddler and angler already you are going to love doing the two together on an SOT.

Kneedeep welcome i am new here myself ,i bought my yak off anglers afloat forum and that is the best value but you may have to wait a while and a bit of a trip to pick up are the downsides . We come up that way once a year in our narrow boat on our annual pilgrimage to Lechlade river permiting so will give you a shout and we could meet for a paddle . I fish from Clifton Hampden down and if she ever settles down happy to meet around any of those bits for a go although we have occaisionaly launched at Babbylock Hythe and even the boat yard at Lechlade . She is angry and all over the fields on my local bits at the mo so guessing she is even worse through Oxford . Welcome to the Forum Steve.

Thanks very much for your comments and for your welcome. That was a really good review on the Kaafu, and Im sure that many people will benefit from that. I will of course mention you when I buy one. And hopefully I'll post some pictures of my mods. Cheers, kneedeep.

The Thames at Oxford was looking a bit menacing last time I looked and the red boards have been up and down quite a bit. I have paddled around the Clifton Hampden and Culham area a couple of times and its really nice around there. When it all calms down a bit would love to come and see how its done when you are about. Regards, Duncan.

Mods that i think are useful are cutting out the storage sections you then have access to the inside for nuts etc. then get a couple of collapsable bowls and glue or Velcro them inside the hull so you can store gear in them without it sliding and the hull. Rod holders and an anchor trolley. Terry
