No.... not a Donkey Jacket ....a donkey top.
You know....the ones we used to use years ago when we all made our own quiver tip rods by splicing in a really soft solid glass donkey top to get an ultra sensitive tip.
I have asked round and no one stocks them nowadays.... 'No call for them!' Any ideas where to get one?
I want to try putting a really soft section in the top of a rod I have got to see if I can make up an ultra light drop shot rod and save a few pennies.

Oh no Keith this is an easy one. In the late 70's we were all at it, it was as we moved from swing tips and spring tips to quiver tips. It made a hell of a difference to bite detection. Eveey shop used to have a selection of tops. Gone the same way as stick floats it seems. It's just a cheap way of seeing if I can make a cheap rod from what I already have.

I remember getting in to my first "18 rated " film with some mates, don't laugh it was Mash , same as the TV series, and we were 14, I've seen it on telly with my kids now, they thought it was crap ,I thought so too and nothing to compare to 12 rated movies now ! The following week we got in to "Confessions of a window cleaner" even saw titties in that one ! Makes me laugh when I hear my kids singing 70's songs because there used in kids programmes etc now.

I remember the confessions series...What about Straw Dogs and Barbarella not to mention Clockwork Orange?
Then there was getting hold of a copy of Lady Chatterley's Lover, Tit Bits, Health and Efficiency. Going on holiday to Spain in Franco's reign..... Page 3 had a black bikini and I got thrown off the beach after dark with a naughty young lady by police with guns.

When I think of all I got up to it going to be hard to tell the kids to behave and keep a strait face! I thought straw dogs was brilliant, although havn't seen it in 30 years! susan geoge was something else, had a page three girl living a couple of miles up the road then as well,Jilly Cooper, people give kids grief and forget all the fun they got up to,thats when your old I recon, when you just can't enjoy life any more ( wifes been that way for years ) !

young whippersnappers you havent lived if you have never made a bastard rod ..i have a couple i made for the yak and although not perfect they are personal and that is something huge . right so you know ...donkey tops differ from quiver tips because they are inserted from the inside of the top section and are ment to stay put .you could strip down a quivertip and then insert and re ring but i reckon best bet is finding a cheap bendy rod sort of thing that you pay ten pound for and it includes a reel which willnot last a day and some awful line a couple of hooks and a clockweight ..save the clockweight and throw everything but the tiop section away ..take of rings insert and re ring .or get hold of john wilson he loved donkey tops ..what was that film called in the outback with the nakedbird and the abo....was it called walkabout .and was it jenni agutter ...oldschool porn .

I have looked at some cheapo's in Decathlon and they are too stiff.
I will keep my eye open. I do have an old two top Tricast quiver and hardly ever use the light tip but I have had it for nearly 30 years and it would destroy some great 'scratching' session memories if I stripped it. But that is always a last resort.
That fiim...I had forgotten about that one....Walkabout. Jenny Agutter? Subject of many fantasies.
