There was an article on the BBC webpage yesterday asking whether or not we should pick other peoples rubbish up.
I've always found that if I take a plastic bin bag with me on my kayak or motor boat I can usually fill it with quite a bit of fishing tackle and beer cans cleared from overhanging trees or floating in the margins. I've found that this often stops bank anglers in their tracks if they were going to complain about me. In fact, I only got into kayak fishing when I got a spinner stuck in a tree in the middle of the river and went and got my dinghy from the car.
The kayak is the swiss army knife of boats, and kayakers help in all sorts of situations, from boats that have broken their moorings, kids and dogs that have fallen off boats, etc. I think it would be interesting to list all the other benefits there are to having us out in the wild.

You are so right ;D I have recovered loads of line, floats and spinners. For my own use and also for anglers still fishing. Last Spring I did some serious cleaning up on a local stretch of river in the footsteps of a guy on SOTP. It was in a wooded area and any wood debris I put up the bank and tins, bottles, polystyrene etc was bin bagged and taken away. Numerous enquiries were made with local authorities as to what actions they were intending to take as part of a clean up operation. The result: ' On this occassion Mr Wright we have decided not to prosecute for you 'flytipping'!!!. ' Not happy at all. We have the chance to do good and promote ourselves as responsible anglers. ;D Use it Terry

When we had the peterborough meet I was pleased to bring home two good footballs found near the football ground! I get very peeved to see all the rubbish in the rivers though, it can be worse when the EA have a weed and tree clear out though, the rivers fill with rubbish then ,it can look like a big messy matt almost covering the water!
