I have been looking for a new vice that has full rotary capability as the crappy one I have is rubbish. The price of a decent on is £50 upwards, which isn't so bad but I did not wish to spend that much as I am buying a load of new fly gear so I am conscious of costs. I found this on ebay www.ebay.co.uk/itm/330783112775?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649I bought it and it arrived this morning. The build quality is fantastic, stainless steel and brass, nothing to fancy with the ability to take very large hooks. This is very good value for money, I was only thinking of a stop gap product until I really got into tying pike/perch flies but I don't think I will need to upgrade from this for a long time. Phil

Phil
That looks a bargain and I will be getting one of those. I've tied my own flies for many years using a vice that was dirt cheap and it has done the job fine, but I think it is time to retire it. It shows that it isn't necessary to spend big though.
Thanks for the info, and enjoy your fly tying - you can't beat catching on the fly especially one you designed and tied yourself.
Cheers

I have done the trout on fly but I never really became hooked on that aspect of fly fishing. The most enjoyment I had with the fly rod was on coarse fish and I think the pike is a natural progression for me. Having had a few phone discussions with Simon at the Pike Shack, I am getting very sound advice and after being offered the chance of going out with him for a session to try a few of the rods plus for Simon to check over my casting, as I have never used 10# before now and never used shooting head lines I think I will be on the right track. I am just putting together an order for some tying bits and pieces using some of their patterns as a starter. Really looking forward to the whole aspect of pike/perch fly fishing, even more so now that I have Ashby Ville lake so close where I can fly/spin and bait fish all year round from both the bank and kayak, I think it is going to be a good year. Take a look at the patterns on here Phil both video and step by step photos, you might like the look of some of them. pikeshack.co.uk/category/videos/Phil

Good stuff Phil, I shall be having a cast in my dinner hour on Monday , I know- I'm very lucky !
I just love it when a pike takes the fly , often you see the take as well as feel it ! Pike fly fishing is a lethal method - they just can't resist the action of a well presented fly, it often out fishes other methods and is so enjoyable - fantastic !
Good luck

In your lunch hour Phil--------you lucky bugger. I take it that you either work next to a river or you are the baliff of a water somewhere.

Phil is a very lucky man Phil.......does that sound daft. He works at a big house with some pretty exclusive water in the garden. He is even luckier with having great access to the Lleyn Peninsular. Oh and he is a very nice guy. ;D I hate him.

Thanks for the reference Terry , you're very kind. Mind you it's not all fun , being responsible for -- 2000 acres with nearly one million visitors per year, 800 deer , two flocks of rare breed sheep , historic buildings and - oh yes two lakes ( one a mile long ) The pressure ! ;D I have my fun when all our visitors go home

I have such a love of deer, I tried to buy a couple of Fallow deer some years ago when I had a small holding on the outskirts of Sheffield with very high wire fencing around------I had quite forgotten about that. We always go down to Suffolk several times a year either with the caravan or staying at a shooting lodge. One of the nice things is that deer are all around, in fact I have been shooting on the clay layout and little Munkjack deer have been wondering through the woods totally unaffected by the clay shooting.

Munkjack....you can shoot those can't you? They are an invasive species.
