Evening all Just wondered if anyone good give me any pointers regards waters in the Yorkshire area that would be friendly for my first launch? Would prefer still water rather than a river. Won't be taking the fishing gear i just want to get used to the Yak, learn how to paddle and throw myself off to practice self rescue etc etc. I have booked a day for a safety course in June at the Runswick Bay event but just want to get the hang of things before as I'm giddy to get going ;D
Any advice much appreciated. All the best John

Kell get on a canal or a river and just have a paddle, get your muscles working because believe me you have a few aches and pains to get through.
Have some fun with easy paddles whilst the fishing is rubbish and then when it picks up you will be confident and paddle fit.
I have to say often this time of year I will paddle as much as I fish you really get a chance to explore.

If Kell and Yorkpiker want to come over to Scunthorpe, Ashby Ville lake next weekend, I will be happy to offer a few hours and get you both off to a safe start. I am wanting to practice with the pike fly rod so we could combine both.
Let me know if either of you want to come over.
Phil

John you will be welcome then, there are plenty of pike in the lake which is open all year so you can always chuck some gear in with you.

No problems Phil but there is very little being caught if you are wanting to fish as well. I was thinking of having a session at Cleethorpes when the weather has improved as the winds are biting and the water temp is very low. Not ideal for doing self rescue practice when you are brand new to kayaking but if that is what you guys want, I will fit in.

Well I wil be going to Ashby lake proberbly Sunday morning if anybody wishes to join me. If you are fishing it will cost you a fiver. I was going on Saturday but as I have just paid out a very large sum of money on a new trap gun so I will be heading over to Beverley clay shooting ground to smash a few little black discs.
