Okay lads got the roof bars fitted this weekend and I also have brought some Thule roof straps to strap the Yak to the rails. The Yak is a OK 4.3 ultra and my vehicle is. Toyota Hilux pick up. Do I also need to strap the Yak at the bow to the van to stop the nose lifting or is there any other precaution I need to take?? Any advice appreciated as always.
All the best John

I have Thule bars , pipe lagging 'tubes' over those and then duck tape all along the lagging to toughen it up. Then as above, upside down secured with cam lock straps, NOT RATCHET STRAPS!!! They are far to strong and can damage the kayak. The lagging compresses and holds the kayak nicely. I also have Thule uprights for when I want to take two kayaks that are too wide to sit side by side.
One tip if you buy Thule bars I got them slightly longer than fit my car and got a friend to ream out the channel so they fitted. This gave an extra 6" of bar width and I can fit my P13 and Easky 15 side by side.
