Whilst calling in a customer in Rotherham this morning, I popped into Yorkshire Game Angling which is part of Lureflash and Fishing Republic. I wanted just a couple of fly tying bits and pieces and my god when I say ciaos I am not exaggerating. It is without doubt the worst laid out retail business I have ever been in.
There were piles of different items all mixed up, I could hardly see products on the rails because of a ' pile ' of unrelated tackle in front of sale items. I did ask if they were doing a sort out or a stock check but was told this is how it always is. This is not a little shop but a very large warehouse type of outlet.
Lureflash is a successful business and I just don't know anybody can run a company like this.
I left with a small pack of dumbell leads because despite a guy looking for me, we could not find the items in question even though he knew they stocked them. Needless to say I will not be going back.

Amazing! With the prestige that the brand carries you would expect better.

You know it is such a pity because there are some really good bargains to be had if it wasn't for the shear hassle of finding them.
I saw a folding landing net with rubber netting, perfect for the kayak but they had not been priced and nobody had been made aware of the price, it would have been good for the kayak too.

I'm afraid all the group has gone the same way, I think there main business is now internet (ebay) based and the shops just seem to be like warehouses with stock piled anywhere and to be honest quite o lot of it now is just tat. Phil

Sounds like the old JO UK warehouse ;D WE knew where everything was...well, mostly. For everything else we had to ask rich the warehouse mismanager, he hid stuff. He'd hide, for example, the last kea behind 25 ultra 4.7's in the corner of the warehouse where it was only just tall enough for them but was also restricted by girders and would then pile other boats in front of the access. t gave him something to do. the cock.

And set fire to the warehouse whilst reshaping bent boats I seem to recall on a trip down there.

haha, were you there? That was hilarious!!!
lunchtime. Rich and the others piss off for lunch leaving a boat in the oven - a glorified box with a blow heater. Something tipped or moved and it heated up the wood which caught light. I was humminbird then; I came back and Leggett was outside, he noticed some smoke and went to tell andy while I went to look for it...legget was the master of being taken seriously
'Uh...there's a fire in the warehouse Andy' 'fuck off leggett' 'Uh, no, uh there's a fire in the warehouse' Andy springs into action, carrying out all the fire drills...the warehouse boys come back and want to stick all the lendal on because it's a pain in the arse...andy however grabs the coffee pot and chucks grounds all over the box. Then he came out with the washing up bowl. satisfied it was out he went back to his office and i carried on putting it out with the washing up bowl.
Rich hadn't hid any of the fire extinguishers though, they were in plain view.

The rotherham branch is.the head office and is primarily the mail.order ctr. If you want organisation.your best bet is to visit the sheffield branch off efingham road.
I.do.go in to the rotherham one a fair bit as they carry forozen.mucky.squid and lug etc bit agree...its a mess bit it seem to work.
If you compare the other branches, they are far better laid out and organised

The problem is Phil, the fishing republic shops do not carry any real stock of fly fishing and fly tying materials stock. I pop into the Effingham rd shop as it is only 5mins from my office but 95% course fishing.

Try billy clarkes on Alderson Road in Sheffield it is nr bramhall lane im afraid. Or wickersley tackle at hellaby ind est , its sort of on your way home.
Like most tackle shops now it all seems to be carp, carp or carp.
Is the tacke shop stil open on the wicker...name escapes me butthey were always well regarded.

I think you are thinking of Bennetts which closed down, shame as I got trade there.
Walkers of Trowell offer a good range of fly gear and had several rods from them, just a shlepp over there.
To be honest, ebay is as good as anywhere, it is just nice to have a look at things to check quality, size, colour etc etc.

Bennets..They were a long standing business, but suspect that they lost a lot of business when the new bypass, road system went in. Quite a few businesse vanished that relied on.daytime trade being able to park up.easily.

No Phil, they were customers of mine and both them and Calcotts on the Wicker were flooded in 2007, 7' under water. They both suffered big losses and the business never really recovered as Bennetts had quite a large mail order side which was seriously attacked by the other companies during the 3 months the shop was closed.
