Does anyone have anyway of changing/putting on trebles to there lures ? i was thinking of using cross lock snaps so can put hooks on fast, I'm finding it difficult to make keeping large lures on the kayak safe from my legs and big tangles. this way you would store your hooks in one box and the hookless lures in another. your thoughts please

Sorry Daz I misread this, I thought you meant hooks that 'release the fish quickly'! I have loads of those, it's called 'long distance release'! I release loads of fish at distance.... Well it stops me getting my hands slimey. Terry

Is it purely keeping the hooks from catching you Daz because if that is the main reason, I saw a very natty mod that someone on a US site had done. He had about 10 lengths of poly pipe all glued together so you finish up with a honeycomb type of arrangement with the lures dropped into the tubes so the hooks hung over the lip of the tube making them pretty safe. I know there is a specific lure carrier from the US but at one hell of a price, this was very cheap. I would think it is not too difficult to make a flap or lid for this little lure nest to make it safe on the kayak.

I think I would go down the storage route myself, if you start changing the hooks and hangers on things like jerkbaits you can affect the action, as well as being fiddley to do.
What about using small slices of pipe lagging for hook bonnets. Graham

Have you tried the treble hook covers? keep meaning to get some myself ! but if you have them on it should stop tangles and suit damage.

lol Don't be silly Daz, that wouldn't work! You'll need the 40ft container not 20ft Not an easy problem to fix is it, everyone has different kayaks so have different possible storage options. I have thought about rigging up the centre tray on my new kayak with lure hangers but it would probably require the same time to just open the lure box and select whatever lure I wanted.

I just use a bucket with foam glued round the top edge. Nick the hooks in the foam and let them hang into the bucket. Any deep container will do.
You can get about 30 decent lures round the edge of a 5ltr bucket. I've got a rig bin too which holds traces and floats and drops in the middle.

Judging by his storage Daz would be better off with a bath never mind a bucket, mind you he could always tow it behind.

Ultralight lures are the way. I've got about 100 and they all fit in a tiny box. Had snappers to 19lb on them!
