Yes it has my name all over it Terry and whilst it may be a bit slow, I am sure the Torqeedo will change that.
Have another look Terry as Eric's paddle, the one with green blades. I emailed him yesterday to see what it was, Eric says it is a Lightening made by Robson at 250cms, very nice indeed. I think I am going to get rid of my Lendal and go for one of those when my kayak arrives----------------Oh but I want a Ray Marine Dragon ff combo------------------so little time, so little cash, so much I want to do--------------------that is life I guess.

The big rig looks like a nice boat Phil when do you expect to get your hands on one? I have had one on order for a couple of months but they are only just coming through production. I am hoping mine will be on the January shipment due in on the 6th but if they have not been able to ship by then, it will be March before it arrives. Phil

My Jackson Big Rig was due last week but there was a bit of a mix up with my kayak going to someone else which didn't please me very much however having seen a photo of it, I am rather pleased because the colour turned out to be somewhat garish so a quick chat with Aaron, the importer, I have changed colour specs to forest camo and as I very rarely go out to sea, it is all course fishing the colour will be more suited. Just need ot tread water until March when the next shipment arrives although I do have the Cuda 14 to use so not the end of the world by any means. I was going to fit my Torqeedo and ff to the Big Rig but have decided to fit to the Cuda while waiting for the BR.

I have used my Big Rig 4 times now (2 "play sessions" and 2 full days)and I'm well impressed with it !. I have no other experience to compare as I have only used 13ft boats before but its comfortable, stable and a good fishing platform. I stood up this weekend to cast on it and only had a minor wobble. The front stand rail is good for the extra support but I did not feel it is that necessary due to the stability/width. It does lend its self to adding seat box rod rest attachments and camera mounts though. The rear hatch takes the c-tug easy so the large front hatch is clear for all the surplus gear I took that I did not need !.Go pro mounts, scotty rest and ram tubes leave me thinking what else I need to add !.
A really good tool for fishing and thanks to the guys who helped me to find it.

I am pleased it worked out Gary. I am fitting my Torqeedo motor and a pop-up table along with the other usual items to taylor the kayak to what I want. Just have to wait a while for it to arrive.

Torqeedo motor - I keep pulling myself away from the ads for that !.
Do you not have to upgrade your licence for that as the kayak is powered ?.

Anyone sees the kayak with a torqeedo motor, they would not know it was a motor as it looks nothing like an outboard. If you want one, talk to me first....

Hi Phil
They do look tempting but my missus already struggles to believe that I have only spent around £700 on a kayak, drysuit, fishfinder, PFD, paddles and all the other gear !. More kit and I am pushing it. Number one golden rule for a good fishing life - Keep the missus happy !.
On Saturday I paddled straight into the wind and when it blew hard I went nowhere, only when it stopped for a minute did I get anywhere, a motor seemed really appealing then !.
Maybe for the winter season and those light breezes....................ripping across the fens !.

The cost of the Torqeedo is very high but well worth the dosh but my friend alan, known as altop on here has been using a conventional electric outboard of mine to run a few kayaks. Now in many cases, a leisure battery is too heavy for a kayak to be safe but with the BR, it has good carrying capacity and the ability to store such a battery in one of the hatches. Now this is much cheaper and will do a decent job so food for thought perhaps.
Alan, if you pick this up, can you add some details for us please.

Yeah ive been using a 34lb thrust lecky motor with a smallish liesure battery.I have used it on a candian canoe and my Perception Gemini tande m i mounted the motor at the side so you can easily tilt the handle to clean the prop ,you need to be able to do this on the Ancolme in the summer.I probably get about 2.5 to 3 hours at a decent speed a fair bit more at one of the lower settings.Dont get me wrong i dont use it much is just when i fancy a chug chug. You can get a motor and battery for lees than 180quid cheers Al,

I like the idea of a electric motor. My few efforts lure fishing the fens from a kayak have been far from enjoyable. I found it really awkward drifting and casting lures. Put the paddle down cast....pick up the oar correct your drift etc etc so gave up and just did bait fishing.I find it a doddle from a boat just using an electric to correct the drift. I haven't bothered trying trolling live baits for the same reason. I like big waters, just set the drouge and drift, but small drains I'm struggling with and that's where i really wanted to use the kayak!

Some paddle purists may well turn their nose up at the outboard but I will just run through a few points for your interest.
I also enjoy my paddling but sometimes if I want to cover water quickly or to run a scan over a lake/river with the fish finder to establish where to fish, nothing comes near the outboard. I am 62 and not as fit as I used to be so a couple of years ago when paddling against the current at Flamborough at an open meet, I was knackered. I tested the Torqeedo and found a whole new world of effortless kayak fishing. Now one thing that also came up was the fact that, Trish, my wife was far easier in her mind when I was at sea having some form of power to get be back if I fell into trouble.
In fresh water terms, I thought I would never use it and quite often don't but when the wind is blowing me across the lake at a fair rate, the motor takes back up for the next drift in double quick time. A silly thing, Terry, Daz, Ian and myself were all fishing and whilst I was fluff chucking, I had not noticed the others had disappeared out of sight. On with the motor and down the lake I went, they had gone to the other end, stopped and had lunch but I got down to join them in a very short time.
A river can throw a fair volume of water causing nothing but hard work for anyone paddling against it, with the motor life is much easier and progress is made against the current and fishing continues.I also have a problem with my right arm which can become very painful so again the addition of a motor allows me the comfort to go out on the kayak. In fact when I think of the future, the motor will give me a few more years than perhaps would do without one.
They are brilliant to have at your disposal but remember you don't have to use it.
