Hi folks,
I would like to get a multiplyer rod and reel for pike fishing but not sure what to get.
Do any of you use them?
If so, what type and is it and what method of fishing are you using it for?
Cheers,
Dane.

I only use a multiplier for lure fishing. I have a Savage XINT Butch 40g-100g lure rod then an Okuma Citrix Ci-273v low profile multiplier. This is for bigger lures. I would say as long as you stick to recognised brand you are ok. There are a few here into their lure chucking....DAZ .....I am sure they will give you more advice. Terry

It really depends on what size lures you are going to chuck.
I tend to use fixed spool reels for light to medium lure work although I do have a light multiplier set up.
For my heavier lure work I swear by Abu 5500 or 6500 series (5501/6501 if you are right handed and wind with your left hand).
These are quality reels that are easy to maintain and will give many years of use if looked after (I regularly service which is easy).
As for a rod, again it depends on lure size.
I have 3 jerk bait rods rated to 4oz, 6oz and 8oz. Generally speaking a 6oz/150g rod should cover all but the heaviest lures.
Most of the main manufacturers produce decent jerk bait rods. Savage do some decent, reasonably priced rods as do Daiwa. You could do a lot worse than look on the Friendly Fisherman or Franglais Angling sites. They stock some excellent gear and both Andy at Friendly and Steve at Franglais give excellent service and will give great advice. They both specialise in predator gear.
Hope this helps
Ian

One thing I would recommend is that you use braid and go heavier than you think you actually need. If you are chucking big lures you need strong braid and quality leaders and swivels. On my reel I have 80lb braid for lures up to 100gms
On fixed spools for smaller lures I have 30lb.

You are spot on Terry. I use the same braid sizes as you on my set ups. I also scale down to 15lb on my ultra light gear. This does assist the casting of smaller lures. As you say 80lb braid as a minimum and quality links and leaders on a multiplier for 100g+ lures.

The best thing about multi's on a yak is the low profile, I do find F/S reels hanging down a pain some times.

hahaha, like rocking horse turds to get hold of now!!!
I use fladen maxximus LP Magnet 6bb baitcasters loaded with 40lb maxximus braid and xtraflexx 210cm 10-30g rods for trolling, casting metal and plastic lures and baits, jigging sandeels and feathers for pike, perch, mackerel cod and bass. brilliant reels, left and right hand versions available, around fifty quid and they got a thorough work out last year; didn't let me down once. better than the shimano baitcasters I had before (had a few), much better. I can thouroughly - and honestly - recommend them. For transparency I am sponsored by Fladen but only recommend (and use) good stuff. They must have had fifty sessions last year. had bass to 5lb, pike about the same, codling to 3lb, perch to 3 or 4lb and strings of 8 mackerel on them from the kayak last year (and a brace of 3lb bass at the same time) on them. I usually add a short length of 20lb fluorocarbon to the ends too.

Dane, Drop Phil a pm with your email then remove it. There is dodgey software that trawls forums for email address then uses them for malicious purposes. Better safe than sorry. Terry

I will take a few photos and post on here for ease.
My wife has been cloned or at least her email address which has now been sent to all her friends and family asking for them to open a window to see something or other but the email is signed, Patricia and she never uses her full name so nobody opened it thankfully.
