What do you guys do with your landing net? I haven't bothered with one when sea fishing, but tried carrying one on my last couple of river trips. A net of a useful size was a bloody nuisance. Tried carrying one behind me & it kept being dragged over the side by overhanging branches and if stored up front was a magnet for hooks which were then a nightmare to untangle. Was thinking of a fully folding flip up net stored in a sleeve or tube as a compromise, but the one handed ones don't tend to be very big. Any suggestions?

I have that net Terry, in the L (not XL) size. Top tip about leashing securely. I also lost mine over the side but managed to retrieve it 2 weeks later with a grappling hook. Couldn't believe my luck, thought it was gone forever. Its a good quality net but I don't find it easy to unfold one handed. Do you carry yours folded and then unfold it when you reach your fishing spot or do you have the knack of deploying it one handed when needed?

I use my net with a handle cut down to about 2'long, its a lot less hassle and still easy to scoop a pike up from the side of the kayak. Also don't worry too much about too big a net, pike bend quite easy and lets be fair there's a lot more jacks than 20's. There's always the option of chinning a pike if you can see clearly where the hooks are and unhooking with only the pikes head and shoulders out of the water. Phil

Phil - I hand land 99% of the pike I catch, but always carry a net when bank fishing just in case. I don't think my SG net has ever seen a fish! Sam - where do you store your net on your kayak?

sort of stopped carrying one as it was a bloody nuisance, caught thorns ,weed and hooks,if it dragged a bit it would fill with weed.Had thought of getting one and having a tube to store it or something -still waiting for inspiration on that front.

Was thinking along the same lines Greygoose - a sea trout sized flip up type net stored in a section of rod tube lashed to the yak somehow. Might give the large sized one of these a try as they look robust & have rubberised mesh: www.shakespeare-fishing.co.uk/catalogue/accessories,831/game-accessories,840/nets,1002/agility-game-nets,8697.html Would probably cut down the handle as Phil suggests.
